The Seasonal Assistant, Basketball Communications supports the Atlanta Hawks' Basketball Communications department in delivering timely, accurate, and professional communications throughout the 2026-27 NBA season. This role contributes across writing, media operations, and game-day execution, serving as a key point of contact for media and a behind-the-scenes driver of the department's daily workflow. Success in this role looks like seamless game-day operations, polished written content, and a media experience that reflects the professionalism of the Atlanta Hawks organization.
Writing/Stat Research (25%)
  • Primary author of postgame notes

  • Assist with game notes, press releases, and Player of the Week/Month nominations.

Media Operations (25%)
  • Create and distribute season and single-game credentials for media, visiting team, and organization

  • Prepare and distribute pregame packets for the visiting team and media

  • Assist with media availability and player interviews at practice and shoot-around

Game Day Operations (25%)
  • Create and place media seating cards and seating charts throughout the arena.

  • Hand out media credentials at the media entrance beginning 3 ½ hours before tip-off

  • Serve as first PR point of contact when media enters the arena

Administrative Duties (25%)
  • Handle administrative responsibilities, including processing confidential reports, tracking deadlines, managing purchase requests, and taking meeting notes

  • Lead player and front office fan mail tracking

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1-3 years of progressive experience in sports communications, preferably with the NBA, a professional sports team, league office, or major college athletics program

  • Demonstrated experience managing media relations for high-profile athletes or sports organizations

  • Proven track record of building relationships with media and successfully placing stories

  • Experience managing game-day communications operations

  • Previous experience with an NBA team, NBA League Office, or NBA G League organization

  • Bilingual capabilities (Spanish preferred given international player landscape)

  • Background in digital content creation, including video production and editing

  • Established network within NBA media community

  • Experience working in Atlanta sports market

  • Advanced degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field
