Job Description

Position: Basic Security Officer

Location: New London, NC

Employment Type: Part-Time

Pay: $ 15.00/hr

Shifts: Friday and Saturday, 6 PM–6 AM

Description: Unarmed security position providing fixed and roving patrol security for a client site. Shifts vary.

Responsibilities include:

  • security patrols of designated areas on foot or in vehicle
  • understand and fulfill obligations and responsibilities of all posts
  • investigate and prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities.
  • complete State of Georgia 24-hour basic security officer course within six month of hiring.
  • complete applicable Safety & Environmental Rules training.
  • maintain daily activity reports on paper, computer, smart phone or tablet.
  • watch for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards
  • sound alarms or call police or fire department in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons
  • permit authorized persons to enter property and monitors entrances and exits
  • assist customers, employees and visitors in a courteous and professional manner
  • completing post order training and familiarization

Expectations include one or more of the following essential job functions with or without a reasonable accommodation:

  • be able to work overtime and on various shifts as needed; including weekends and holidays. Reasonable accommodation based on religious beliefs or disabilities will be considered on a case-by-case basis
  • be able to maintain accurate records (ability to read and write)
  • effectively comprehend numerous policies, procedures, and concepts in order to respond appropriately to various situation
  • communicate effectively with others
  • walk up and down stairs
  • use a computer or tablet with basic competence to include:
    • Guard tour system
    • Camera monitoring system.
    • E-mail program - being able to compose and read e-mails.
  • patrolling the client's facility (length and period to be determined by client)
  • control access to the client facility (foot and vehicle traffic)
  • stand for long periods of time sometimes in excess of eight hours
  • work outside in a variety of weather conditions depending on the assignment

Candidates are required to:

  • possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • pass any State-required training or other qualifications for licensing
  • complete site-specific training before serving as a qualified security officer
  • have a driver's license if driving a company or client-owned vehicle
  • have the ability to operate radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors
  • ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public
  • be at least 18 years old
  • be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
  • have access to reliable transportation/self-owned that allows for short notice response
  • be able to work any shift, 24 hours per day, seven days per week
  • participate in training sessions and meetings when scheduled
  • adhere to EKG and client safety policies
  • have a mobile phone
  • have an e-mail address and regularly use it
  • be able to operate a computer (Windows-based) and tablet with basic competency to include human resources and time entry software/web-sites, e-mail, and time entry phone systems
  • be able to effectively read, write, and speak English
  • be able to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if prior military
