Gateway to Success Academy is seeking a High School ELA/Social Studies Teacher to join our team.

Gateway to Success Academy is a public charter academy located in Scottville, Michigan, serving students in grades 6-12. We value each student by providing individualized learning opportunities in a supportive, relationship-focused environment. Our smaller school setting allows staff to get to know students in a deeper way and provide a different level of support, care, and accountability.

Project-Based Learning is at the heart of what we do at G2S. We believe students learn best by doing. Teachers develop project-based units that connect academic concepts to real-world experiences, student interests, and meaningful outcomes. Giving students voice and choice in their learning is an important part of our approach.

Position Summary

The High School ELA/Social Studies Teacher will provide instruction in English Language Arts and Social Studies while supporting students in building the skills, confidence, and credits needed to move toward graduation. The ideal candidate is relationship-focused, flexible, organized, and excited to work with students in a project-based learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver instruction in high school English Language Arts and Social Studies aligned to Michigan academic standards.
  • Develop and implement project-based learning units that connect academic content to real-world issues, student interests, and meaningful experiences.
  • Create a positive, supportive classroom environment where students feel respected, safe, and motivated to learn.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students with varying academic needs, learning styles, and levels of readiness.
  • Use student data, coursework progress, and assessments to guide instruction and support.
  • Help students develop reading, writing, research, critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Monitor student progress toward course completion and graduation requirements.
  • Communicate regularly with students, families, school leadership, and support staff.
  • Maintain accurate records, including grades, attendance, student progress, and required documentation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support student success, school goals, and project-based learning opportunities.
  • Build strong, appropriate relationships with students while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, school events, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate required.
  • Appropriate endorsement in English Language Arts, Social Studies, or ability to teach assigned content area preferred.
  • Experience working with middle school and/or high school students preferred.
  • Experience with project-based learning, alternative education, credit recovery, or at-risk student populations preferred.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
  • Comfortable using technology and learning management systems to support instruction and student progress.
