Department: Rehab Services

Status: ROC

Hours: Hours may be adjusted in response to workload demands. Low census may be utilized in accordance with hospital policy.

Job summary:

The physical therapist is a licensed Physical Therapist who organizes and conducts medically prescribed physical therapy programs to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of a body part; assists patients to reach their maximum performance and live within their limitations; Provides for the daily supervision of physical therapy staff in the absence of the Department Director. The Physical Therapist Assistant administers physical therapy treatments to patients, under the direction of and as assistant to the Physical Therapist. Administers active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, and gait and functional training and modalities. The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for carrying out the treatment plan as designed by the Physical Therapist.

Qualifications/Position Requirements:

  1. Graduate of an APTA accredited Physical Therapy Program/Physical Therapist Assistant Program.
  2. Licensed physical therapist or physical therapist assistant in the state of Michigan.
  3. BLS Certification required within 3 months of hire and recertification as required.
  4. Ability to establish effective working relationships and effective communication with peers, patients, families, physicians, and all other support hospital & external personnel
  5. Supports and contributes to the total hospital system by maintaining a hospital-wide perspective and serving on department/hospital committees.
  6. Ability to influence the direction of Physical Therapy Services by maintaining a positive perspective/attitude.
  7. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a stressful situation while maintaining composure and excellence in the delivery of PT services
  8. Ability to promote and adapt to change in order to keep current with Physical Therapy care duties.
  9. Ability to apply the principles of quality physical therapy care and prepare patient programs.
  10. Evidence of a sense of responsibility, initiative, honesty, and a positive attitude.
  11. Knowledge of various equipment, including whirlpools, traction equipment, parallel bars, weights, etc.
  12. Ability to delegate appropriate tasks to support staff.
