Job description

The Water's Edge Country Club is seeking an Assistant Barn Manager. This position plays a vital role in the daily operation of the Equestrian Center by ensuring the highest standards of horse care, customer service, facility maintenance, and safety. This position works closely with the Barn Manager to oversee daily barn operations, assist with lessons and equestrian programs, supervise staff when needed, and provide
exceptional experiences for members, boarders, and guests.


The ideal candidate is dependable, self-motivated, organized, and knowledgeable in equine
care while demonstrating excellent leadership, communication, and customer service skills.


Horse Care
  • Provide daily care for all horses, including feeding, watering, turnout, stall cleaning, and
  • Monitor horses daily for signs of illness, injury, lameness, colic, or behavioral
  • Administer medications and supplements as
  • Coordinate with veterinarians, farriers, and other equine professionals as instructed by 
  • the Barn Manager.
  • Maintain accurate health and treatment
Riding Programs
  • Assist with riding lessons, trail rides, ring rides, and special equestrian
  • Help evaluate horses for suitability within lesson and program
  • Ensure horses are properly tacked, conditioned, and cared for before and after
  • Assist in scheduling rides and maintaining horse workloads to promote their long-term
Summer Camps & Youth Programs
  • Assist with planning and supervising horse
  • Lead age-appropriate horse education
  • Ensure all campers follow safety
  • Verify that camp registration packets are completed before
  • Supervise games, crafts, riding activities, and educational
  • Maintain a positive, encouraging, and safe learning
Customer Service
  • Greet members and guests promptly and
  • Assist new members with tours of the
  • Answer phone calls and emails
  • Schedule lessons, trail rides, and other equestrian
  • Address member concerns professionally and refer issues beyond your authority to the Barn Manager.
Facility Maintenance
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe
  • Clean stalls, aisles, tack rooms, feed rooms, bathrooms, office areas, and common
  • Maintain water troughs, buckets, fencing, and
  • Monitor inventory levels and notify management of low
  • Assist with seasonal maintenance projects
Staff Leadership
  • Help supervise barn staff in the absence of the Barn
  • Lead by example through professionalism and strong work
  • Assist with training new employees and
  • Promote teamwork and maintain a positive work
  • Ensure staff follow all barn policies and safety
Safety Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe environment for horses, staff, members, and

Administrative Responsibilities

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Minimum of 3 years of horse handling and riding
  • Experience working in a lesson program or boarding
  • Strong knowledge of horse behavior, nutrition, and general health
  • Experience teaching beginner riders is
  • Excellent communication and organizational
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in fast-paced
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)

Applicants must be able to:

  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Work outdoors in varying weather
  • Walk, bend, kneel, and stand for extended
  • Push wheelbarrows, lift hay bales, carry feed bags, and perform general barn
  • Safely handle horses of various ages and temperaments
