What is a barbecue chef?

Barbecue chefs, often called pitmasters, are culinary professionals who specialize in preparing and cooking food using various barbecue techniques, such as smoking, grilling, and slow-roasting over wood or charcoal. They are skilled at selecting appropriate meats, applying rubs and marinades, controlling cooking temperatures, and creating flavorful barbecue dishes. Barbecue chefs may work in restaurants, catering services, food trucks, or at special events, and are known for their expertise in regional barbecue styles and traditions.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a barbecue chef?

To thrive as a Barbecue Chef, you need expertise in grilling, smoking, and meat preparation, often supported by culinary training or significant hands-on experience. Familiarity with various smokers, grills, meat thermometers, and food safety certifications is typically required. These skills ensure flavorful, consistent dishes and a safe, efficient kitchen environment that meets customer expectations.

What are common challenges faced by barbecue chefs during busy service hours?

Professional barbecue chefs often face challenges such as managing multiple meats at different cooking stages, maintaining consistent temperatures across various grills or smokers, and ensuring food safety while serving large crowds. Balancing speed and quality is critical, as barbecue requires both patience and precise timing to achieve the desired flavors and textures. Effective teamwork and clear communication with kitchen staff are essential to coordinate plating, sides, and orders smoothly during peak periods.

Stadium Concessions Team Member

Company: Wright’s Barbecue
Position: Stadium Concessions Team Member
Employment Type: Part-Time / Event-Based

Position Overview

Wright’s Barbecue is looking for energetic, dependable, and hospitality-driven team members to represent our brand at stadium concession locations. Stadium Concessions Team Members help deliver the same great food and genuine Wright’s hospitality our guests expect from our restaurants—while working in a fast-paced, high-volume game-day environment.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, thrives under pressure, and wants to be part of the excitement of major sporting events.

Responsibilities
  • Provide friendly, welcoming, and efficient service to every guest.

  • Take guest orders accurately using the point-of-sale system.

  • Process credit/debit card and other approved payments.

  • Prepare, assemble, and serve Wright’s Barbecue menu items according to company standards.

  • Maintain proper portion sizes, presentation, and food quality.

  • Keep concession counters, food preparation areas, equipment, and surrounding areas clean and organized.

  • Restock food, beverages, paper goods, and supplies throughout the event.

  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department requirements.

  • Communicate effectively with teammates and supervisors during high-volume periods.

  • Help maintain fast ticket times while never sacrificing food quality or hospitality.

  • Assist with concession stand setup before events and cleaning/closing procedures afterward.

  • Follow Wright’s Barbecue recipes, procedures, uniform standards, and operational expectations.

  • Represent Wright’s Barbecue professionally while interacting with stadium guests, employees, and partners.

  • Perform additional duties as needed to support successful game-day operations.

What We're Looking For
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.

  • Friendly, outgoing, and comfortable interacting with guests.

  • Ability to work quickly and accurately in a busy environment.

  • Dependable and able to arrive on time for scheduled events.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

  • Willingness to learn multiple concession positions and help wherever needed.

  • Ability to follow food safety and sanitation procedures.

  • Restaurant, concession, retail, or customer-service experience is helpful but not required.

Physical Requirements

Team members must be able to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods.

  • Work in a fast-paced and sometimes loud stadium environment.

  • Frequently bend, reach, lift, and carry supplies.

  • Lift approximately 25–40 pounds when necessary.

  • Work around hot food, cooking equipment, and refrigerated products.

Scheduling

This is an event-based position, and hours will depend on the stadium event schedule. Team members should be available for a combination of:

  • Weekday evenings

  • Weekends

  • Football and other sporting events

  • Special stadium events

  • Select holidays when events are scheduled

Event shifts may include setup time before gates open and closing responsibilities after the event concludes.

Come work hard, take care of people, serve incredible barbecue, and be part of the Wright’s team on game day.
