Job description

First Merchants Bank is seeking a Client Relationship Banker to join our team! This full time position will complete goals on individual and team sales metrics for the banking center to achieve the strategic and tactical goals of the company. Serve as a primary point of contact in the banking center for sales and services requests. Exceed personal production goals and deliver a meaningful client experience. Lead new account acquisition activities and participate in outbound calling activities to increase market share. Prospect, generate, process and close consumer loans. Engage with the management team in business banking activities.
As part of the role you will:
  • Deliver exceptional, proactive customer service across a broad range of banking needs, consistently creating a positive and seamless client experience.
  • Proactively assess clients' financial positions to identify needs, uncover opportunities, and recommend tailored solutions that deepen relationships.
  • Confidently consult with team members on complex transactions (e.g., check cashing) and take ownership of resolving client requests such as stop payment orders.
  • Partner with clients to reconcile accounts, address questions, and resolve concerns quickly and effectively-turning service interactions into relationship-building moments.
  • Actively collaborate with team members and business partners to deliver comprehensive personal and business banking solutions while maintaining an organized, client-ready lobby environment.
  • Drive banking center growth and productivity by consistently executing purposeful sales and service activities.
  • Develop and execute targeted sales strategies to grow deposits, expand lending, and acquire new households.
  • Consistently meet or exceed monthly referral, appointment, and partner engagement goals.
  • Lead and actively participate in teleconsulting efforts, including structured call blocks and call nights, to build pipeline and deepen relationships.
  • Take full ownership of campaign execution by engaging clients in marketing promotions and converting opportunities into measurable results.
  • Maximize every referral and partner lead through timely follow-up, strong consultative conversations, and disciplined pipeline management.
  • Leverage guided conversations and client profiling tools to identify needs, deliver holistic solutions, and strengthen overall client relationships.
  • Consistently turn service and problem-resolution interactions into meaningful sales opportunities, increasing client loyalty and share of wallet.
  • Champion digital adoption by educating clients and enrolling them in electronic banking solutions to enhance convenience and engagement
  • Execute all onboarding activities, including follow-up calls, accurately and within established timelines to ensure a strong client start.
  • Surpass individual and team sales goals through disciplined activity, strong client relationships, and consistent execution.
  • Proactively expand market presence through outbound calling, community engagement, and strategic partnerships, including business outreach and financial wellness presentations.
  • Support sales and service leadership by modeling high performance and a client-first mindset.
  • Actively contribute to the success of the team by helping associates achieve individual and collective goals.
  • Fully engage in the sales management process, including leading huddles, participating in sales meetings, conducting touch bases, and delivering impactful show coaching.
  • Maintain accurate and timely activity tracking using CRM and sales tools to support performance management and incentive tracking.
  • Promptly monitor and resolve deposit and loan exceptions to ensure compliance and protect the client experience.
  • Show coach, train, and develop team members to strengthen both operational excellence and sales effectiveness.
  • Serve as a Platform Mentor by supporting onboarding, skill development, and ongoing engagement of new hires.
  • Strictly adhere to information security and fraud prevention protocols, ensuring accurate client verification for all consumer and business transactions.
  • Complete all required training on time and continuously strengthen knowledge of policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including BSA, OFAC, CIP, and EDD.
  • Take ownership of daily operational excellence by actively participating in branch security and audit routines, including opening/closing procedures, balancing, and compliance checks.

To be successful in this position, we require the following:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of two (2) years of banking, sales, or related experience to include selling products or services; or, if Bachelor's degree, then demonstrated leadership or goal achievement in related school activities or internships.
  • This position requires S.A.F.E Act registration at the time of employment through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS). Employees hired or transferring into this position will need to meet the qualification requirements within three (3) months of hire.
  • Ability to obtain Notary Public designation.
