Job description

Job Title: Bander


Department: Converting


Reports to: Shift Supervisor/Converting Production Lead


Location: Converting Floor


Position Summary: The Bander is responsible for banding, bundling, and stacking finished corrugated product coming off converting equipment (FFG, RDC, or other finishing lines) to protect product integrity, meet customer packaging specifications, and prepare loads for staging and shipment. This role works closely with the machine operator and downstream crew to keep finished goods moving efficiently and safely off the line.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At ND Paper, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.

Key Responsibilities & Expected Results:

  • Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by actively leading the safe execution of work. 
  • Band, bundle, and stack finished corrugated product per work order and customer packaging specifications (bundle count, banding pattern, orientation).
  • Operate banding equipment (manual or automatic strapping/banding machines), including loading strap/band material and clearing jams.
  • Inspect finished product for quality defects (crushed board, mis-registration, scoring/slotting issues, count accuracy) and set aside or flag non-conforming product.
  • Apply labels, tickets, or tags to bundles as specified by the work order.
  • Stack and stage banded bundles on pallets or skids in a stable, safe configuration for forklift handling.
  • Maintain accurate bundle and pallet counts; report counts to the operator or lead as required.
  • Keep pace with machine speed to avoid line back-ups; communicate promptly with the operator if unable to keep up.
  • Perform basic housekeeping at the banding/stacking station — clear scrap, strap ends, and debris throughout the shift.
  • Assist with changeovers and setup as directed by the operator or lead.
  • Complete required shift paperwork/checklists accurately and on time.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and proper lifting technique.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor or Converting Production Lead.


Qualifications and Skills/Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Prior manufacturing/production experience preferred, not required
  • Ability to work at a steady, repetitive pace
  • Basic math skills for counting and measuring
  • Ability to read and follow work orders/production tickets
  • Attention to detail for quality inspection
  • Ability to work as part of a crew and communicate clearly
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Bilingual in Mandarin a plus


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, bend, twist, and reach for a full shift (typically 8–12 hours).
  • Ability to regularly lift, carry, and stack bundles up to 50 lbs; team lift for heavier loads.
  • Ability to work in a plant environment with variable temperatures, noise, and dust.
  • Ability to safely work near moving machinery and material handling equipment (forklifts, clamp trucks).
  • Manual dexterity for handling banding/strapping equipment and product.


Safety Responsibilities

  • Wear required PPE at all times (safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe or safety footwear, gloves as needed).
  • Follow all lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures; never bypass machine guards or safety interlocks.
  • Use proper lifting technique and request assistance or mechanical aid for heavy/awkward loads.
  • Keep work area clear of trip and slip hazards (strap ends, scrap, pallets).
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, near-misses, or injuries to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Participate in required safety training and crew huddles.
