Job Description
Title: Editorial Assistant
Reports to: Managing Editor
Department: Baker Academic and Brazos Press Editorial
Location: Onsite only, Baker Publishing Group office, Ada, MI
FLSA: Hourly, Non-Exempt
Position Objective
To provide support to the Baker Academic and Brazos Press editorial department.
Primary Responsibilities
• Manage reprint corrections and cloth-to-paper conversions in cooperation with the acquisitions, design, and production departments, making sure to keep projects on schedule.
• Edit and route materials from the visual communications and marketing departments, including covers, ads, catalogs, etc.
• Assist editors with proofreading various materials, including indexes, manuscripts, etc.
• Perform checks related to the end of the book-production process, including preproduction checks and reviews of printer proofs and ebook files.
• Handle routine administrative tasks, including scheduling editorial meetings, preparing files for CIP data, and printing and mailing items on behalf of colleagues.
Qualifications
• Master's degree in Bible, theology, or related fields
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Growing knowledge of the current edition of The Chicago Manual of Style
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word
• Interpersonal communication skills
• Written and verbal communication skills
• Grammar/editing knowledge and skills
• Ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks, follow schedules, and meet deadlines
• Self-motivated
• Takes responsibility for own professional development
• Ability to work on-site in Ada, MI
