Job description

Role:
Responsible for the operation, supervision, and training of the Accounting Department with respect to all functions to ensure quality service to members. A working knowledge of the following functions of this department is preferred. These functions include, but are not limited to: ACH processing, Share Draft processing, Wires, Accounts Payable, Card Services, Remote Deposit, Negotiable Items, Daily Balancing of BVSCU, Cash Services, Garnishments, Liens, and Subpoena processing, Reporting, and the reconciliation of all General Ledgers. Provides coaching and development to assigned department staff.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1.    Ensures active and on-going coaching and development to direct reports staff, writes, and conducts performance appraisals and identifies training needs.  
2.    Oversees the daily operations of the department; trains and directs assigned staff.  Interviews, recommends new hires, promotions, transfers, and salary adjustments.
3.    Assigns and monitors tasks of staff, ensures policies and procedures are followed and deadlines are met. Makes suggestions to improve operations and procedures.  Implements changes in operations, policies and procedures as directed.  Understands duties and functions of direct reports.
4.    Assists in preparation of financial, statistical, and accounting records of the credit union.  
5.    Assists Controller with the preparation, accuracy, and submission of the NCUA 5300 Call Report.
6.    Ensures accounting and back-office functions are completed accurately in accordance with established credit union procedures. Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and regulations are followed in all processes.  
7.    Oversees assigned staff as it relates to accounting activities; maintains communication and coordinates activities with other departments.
8.    Maintains working knowledge of regulatory compliance related to member services and financial services area to include (but not limited to):  BSA reporting requirements, OFAC, USA Patriot ACT, Red Flags, Regulation CC, Regulation D, Regulation E, Truth in Savings, Truth in Lending, Privacy, etc.
9.    Assists with all accounting audits and examinations.  
10.    Other job duties as assigned

Position Requirements:
•    Minimum three years of accounting or financial institution experience.
•    Minimum two years leadership experience preferred.
•    A high school education or GED required.  Two-year degree preferred.
•    Ability to analyze data for equitable resolutions.
•    Ability to manage projects through to completion.
•    Proficient with problem solving and critical thinking skills.
•    Ability to work regular full-time hours.
•    Ability to work on-site at designated location.
•    Ability to communicate with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy and model exemplary member service.  
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications.  
•    Must be bondable

Ergonomic Considerations:

•    Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time (6 to 7 hours per day).
•    Must be able to view a computer screen, use a keyboard to enter information, and manipulate a mouse.
•    Job includes some repetitive hand/wrist motions.
•    Ability to operate office machinery.
•    Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
