The AVP of Information Technology Management leads the IT delivery function for Global Specialty. The leader must have a proven track record leading Scaled Agile Delivery and Engineering. This role encompasses managing single or multiple Value Streams, executing on the GS Transformation roadmap, and achieving business KPIs and OKRs in collaboration with Value Stream Owners, Business, Architecture, and Shared Services.
Key responsibilities include overseeing Value Stream goals, partnering on solution design, and transforming the technology workforce into an engineering mindset capable of independent ownership and end-to-end delivery. The successful candidate must influence across the technology organization, engage in strategic planning and decision-making, and execute complex technology initiatives. Effective communication and the ability to influence senior leaders are essential, along with providing leadership through partnership and mentoring.
This role will have a hybrid work schedule and will have the expectation of working in the office 3 days a week in any of these locations: Hartford, CT; Danbury, CT; Red Bank, NJ; Charlotte, NC; Morristown, NJ. Must be eligible to work in the US without company sponsorship.
Job Duties:
  • Accountable for end-to-end technology execution, quality, financials, and workforce management for strategic investments and maintenance, ensuring compliance with NFR (Compliance, Audit, SOX controls, Disaster Recovery).
  • Partner with VSO, VSL, Business Transformation Leads and Agile product management teams to drive business value and prioritize capabilities.
  • Responsible for delivery of Submissions Intake, Extraction and Ingestion.
  • Manage and negotiate complex stakeholder relationships within and across Value Streams and business leadership.
  • Develop and implement technology strategy, process improvements, risk mitigation, financial management, and resource planning.
  • Collaborate with enterprise leaders on digital transformation, cloud migration, and Generative AI initiatives.
  • Develop and lead a large organization with strong workforce strategies, including HR management for Release Train Engineers, Scrum Masters, Quality Analysts
  • Effectively manage multiple vendor partnerships in an onshore/offshore environment.
  • Lead and govern the established Agile Maturity Roadmap using Agile SAFe framework, Chapters, and platform concepts.
  • Mature DevOps, RE, and QE practices, improve automation for continuous delivery, and build high-performing teams focused on continuous improvement.
  • Oversee financial management, including cost and time estimation to deliver business value.
  • Drive community engagement and productivity, lead innovation, implement new technologies, and demonstrate strong business acumen.
  • Engage leaders to support technology changes, act as a trusted advisor to the leadership teams, and utilize strong analytical skills to influence decisions.
  • Oversee product development and educate leaders on emerging technology trends.

Skills and Expertise:
  • 12+ years of technology leadership experience in delivering software solutions in a complex scaled agile environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must, as well as the ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations.
  • Prior engineering experience, and familiarity with all aspects of the software development life cycle.
  • Strong understanding of business strategy and aligning technology roadmaps to business goals with focus on Business Insurance value chain.
  • Servant leadership abilities with skills in cultivating the technology workforce for future through coaching, development, and performance management
  • Ability to engage leaders across organizational boundaries and influence technology decisions.
  • Practical experience in the insurance domain with strong prior delivery experience is preferred.
  • Conduct market research on emerging trends for technology disruptors in the field, ensuring information protection and secure development practices.
  • Bachelor of Science and/or Masters of Science in Computer Science or related preferred
  • Experience with AI, ML, and integrating data science models into operational systems is a plus.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$182,000 - $273,000
