The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?
Travelers' investment financial analysis team translates raw numbers into actionable insights to tell the story of past financial results and forecast possibilities into the future. This role relates to our $100+ billion investment portfolio. The team acts as an independent party to collaborate with business partners and enable them to make informed decisions rooted in economic reality.
As an AVP, Financial Analysis - Investment Operations and Finance , you will lead the creation and presentation of financial reports focused on our investment portfolio and act as a partner to communicate clear and concise insights / recommendations with the goal of influencing functional/business decisions. You will lead a team working to advance organizational objectives aligned with enterprise goals and ensure more informed strategic decisions are rooted in the appropriate financial metrics. Leveraging your relationship building skills and executive presence, you will build strong internal and external networks. You are expected to be an influential leader that can articulate how your team's financial content should influence business strategy.What Will You Do?
  • Focusing on Travelers Investment portfolio, ensure all reports, exhibits, and presentations from the team are accurate, impactful, and clear.
  • Ensure all insights derived from the team's analysis are synthesized into actional recommendations and lead the analysis of financial and operational reports of the highest complexity.
  • Identify gaps and limitations in data sets and understand multiple layers of complexity with the ability to explain and recommend potential alternatives.
  • Oversee, synthesize, and present exhibits, results, observations, and recommendations to senior management, including formal presentations, monthly financial results, etc.
  • Lead the investment financial analysis and own the finance perspective to drive business strategy for supported organizations.
  • Focusing on investment related results, review competitor press releases, SEC filings, and industry trade press (including strategic studies) for helpful insights, linking opaque themes together and identifying applicability to departmental strategies. Push insights up to management in a timely manner by creating actionable insights to influence business strategy.
  • Oversee implementation of business and financial regulatory changes related to financial reporting, such as reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, etc.
  • Provide coaching, training, and mentoring.
  • If a manager of people, provide leadership, coaching, training, planning, staffing, and performance management and development to employees, in addition to ensuring the understanding of departmental objectives, vision, and strategy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or pursuing a Master's in Business Administration with a concentration in finance or accounting or professional designations such as CPA, CMA or comparable advanced professional education.
  • Extensive experience with Financial Analysis concepts, principles, processes, applications and accounting practices and principles preferably with some exposure to the P&C insurance industry.
  • Significant investment financial analysis and forecasting experience for a broad range of investment asset classes including (Fixed Income, Private Equity, Real Estate, and short-term investments).
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and influencing skills with the ability to present and influence complex information to senior leadership and functional partners in relevant business terms.
  • A proven track record as a leader who is well-respected and highly organized, with the ability to mentor, coach, and develop team members and strategically align resources to accomplish key objectives.
  • Exceptional data analysis skills with the ability to interpret trends and report insights and recommendations to business partners.
  • Advanced organization skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, delegating appropriate assignments to your team, and following through to ensure all items are completed in a timely manner.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Financial Reporting Software (e.g., TM1, Essbase, Hyperion, etc.).
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to problem-solve, think critically and operate strategically across the company.

  • Eight years of finance, financial planning, accounting, or related experience.
  • Previous management experience.
