Automotive finance refers to the various financial products and services that enable individuals or businesses to purchase or lease vehicles. This often includes car loans, leases, and financing plans offered by banks, credit unions, or dealership finance arms. Automotive finance professionals help customers understand their financing options, calculate payments, and complete the necessary paperwork. They also assess creditworthiness and work with lenders to secure approvals. The goal is to make vehicle ownership accessible and manageable for a wide range of customers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in automotive finance, and why are they important?

To thrive in Automotive Finance, strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a background in finance, accounting, or business are typically required, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with industry-specific software (such as Dealertrack or RouteOne), financial modeling tools, and regulatory compliance systems is essential. Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service skills help professionals build relationships and facilitate successful financing deals. These competencies ensure accurate financial analysis, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction in a highly competitive industry.

What are some common challenges faced in automotive finance roles, and how can I prepare for them?

Additionally, being proactive in learning dealership software and compliance procedures can make the transition into the role smoother and set you up for long-term success.

With Ford, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram dealerships at our Los Lunas location, we are looking for an experienced automotive finance professional who understands the entire F&I process, from structuring and presenting a deal to lender relationships, product presentation, funding and customer follow-up.

This is not an entry-level finance position.

If you can produce, protect the deal, take care of the customer and get contracts funded quickly, we want to talk to you.

What We're Looking For

Our ideal Finance Manager can consistently produce strong results in:

  • Finance PVR / PRU

  • F&I product penetration

  • Vehicle Service Contract (VSC) penetration

  • GAP penetration

  • Maintenance and protection products

  • Finance reserve and back-end gross

  • Products per retail

  • Menu and product presentation

  • Deal structure and lender selection

  • Approval conversion

  • Contract accuracy

  • CIT and funding turnaround

  • Customer satisfaction and CSI

You should be able to document your production and performance.

We're not looking for someone who simply held the Finance Manager title. We want someone who can show us what they produced.

Responsibilities
  • Present financing and F&I products professionally to every eligible customer

  • Structure deals to maximize approvals, profitability and customer satisfaction

  • Maintain strong relationships with banks, credit unions, captive lenders and other automotive finance sources

  • Work effectively with captive and indirect lenders

  • Secure competitive approvals across a wide range of credit situations

  • Maintain strong F&I gross and product penetration

  • Complete contracts and finance paperwork accurately and efficiently

  • Ensure deals are clean, complete and ready for funding

  • Follow up immediately on lender stipulations and missing documentation

  • Keep CIT under control and contracts moving toward funding

  • Maintain dealership, lender, manufacturer, state and federal compliance

  • Work closely with sales managers and salespeople to structure and close deals

  • Follow through on promises made to customers

  • Create an experience that makes customers want to do business with Melloy Los Lunas again

Qualifications
  • Previous automotive dealership Finance Manager / F&I Manager experience required

  • Proven F&I production with measurable results

  • Strong PVR and product penetration history

  • Established lender relationships

  • Strong understanding of automotive lending and deal structure

  • Experience with prime, near-prime and subprime credit

  • Ford, Chevrolet, GM, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram or other domestic dealership experience preferred

  • Ford Credit, GM Financial and/or Stellantis Financial Services experience is a plus

  • Strong knowledge of VSC, GAP, maintenance and ancillary F&I products

  • Excellent paperwork, compliance and organizational habits

  • Strong communication, presentation and closing skills

  • Ability to maximize both approvals and profitability

  • Strong customer-service and follow-up mentality

  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced dealership environment

Production Matters. So Does the Customer.

We believe strong F&I production and excellent customer service belong together.

We want a Finance Manager who can produce strong back-end gross, maintain healthy product penetration, get deals funded and still have customers leave feeling good about doing business with us.

No disappearing after the paperwork is signed. No letting stipulations sit. No forgotten promises.

Own the deal from the handshake through funding.
