Job description

Job Title: Assistant Controller

Reports To: Director of Accounting

Classification: Exempt

Job Summary:

The Assistant Controller supports the company's financial management by assisting with tasks like financial reporting and budget management, and ensuring compliance with accounting regulations, while also providing financial analysis and process improvement. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements (income statement and balance sheet).
  • Ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  • Preparing monthly and quarterly reports for management.
  • Participating in the creation of company budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Analyzing variances and identifying trends.
  • Overseeing day-to-day accounting processes.
  • Managing journal entries.
  • Reconciling accounts.
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting regulations and standards.
  • Supporting the planning and execution of external audits.
  • Identifying opportunities to streamline financial operations and improve efficiency.
  • Mentoring and training junior staff.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Five (5) plus years of experience in accounting or finance.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial systems.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and critical thinking skills.
  • CPA or other relevant certifications may be an advantage.

Work Environment:

  • Office environment with very minimal travel, if at all.
  • Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: occasionally lifting or carrying objects of no more than ten pounds, and occasionally standing or walking, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
