The Bachem Group is investing in a new site in Sisslerfeld in Northwestern Switzerland. This step is part of our long‑term strategy to expand production capacity. The new production site will play a central role in achieving these goals.

For this large‑scale CAPEX investment project, we are seeking an experienced Senior Process Automation Engineer (f/m/d) with a focus on downstream processing automation.

Responsibilities
  • You are a technical expert (SME) for process automation (DSP) within a major CAPEX project (> CHF 100 million)
  • Design, develop, and implement automation solutions (Level 0–2.5) for downstream unit operations:
    • Chromatography
    • Filtration (UF/DF, TFF)
    • Purification processes
  • Translate process requirements into automation concepts, batch logic and control strategies
  • Review and optimize automation designs and system architectures in collaboration with external partners
  • Integrate systems into the overall automation landscape (DCS, PLC, MES, Historian)
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, GAMP5, data integrity and validation requirements
  • Coordinate and lead external engineering firms, system integrators and contractors
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, MSAT, IT/OT, and Quality
  • Support the project from concept phase through commissioning, qualification, and handover
  • Contribute to standardization and development of automation concepts for the new site
  • Ensure delivery in terms of quality, budget, and timeline
Your profile
  • Degree in automation, chemical engineering, biotechnology or a related field
  • At least 8–10 years of experience in automation within pharmaceutical or biotech environments
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Downstream process automation (chromatography, filtration, purification)
    • DCS system (Siemens PCS7, PCSneo), PLC (e.g. Siemens TIA Portal), SCADA (WinCC) and batch control
  • Experience with MES, historian and data/PAT integration
  • Solid understanding of GMP, GAMP5 and CQV processes (IQ/OQ/PQ)
  • Proven experience in CAPEX projects and interdisciplinary teams
  • Independent, structured working style with high responsibility
  • High resilience and flexibility
  • Very good knowledge of English; German is a plus
