The Sr. Automation Engineer is responsible for implementing and maintaining automated UI and API testing frameworks and scenarios. This role will work closely with Automation Architects, Sr. Quality Engineers, other QA Engineers and Developers to ensure that all aspects of the applications have proper testing coverage and overall system reliability, performance and quality.
Deliver effective and efficient technical solutions by meeting key project milestones and overall project deliverables on-time and adhering to development and quality standards. Create, review and approve test plans, scenarios, scripts or procedures that contribute to the overall testing framework. Collaborate and interact with other application teams for integration testing efforts.
Responsibilities
  • Accountable for developing and the effective and timely completion of UI and API automation test activities performed on multiple projects, including driving tasks and milestones to complete within the timeframes of a well-defined project plan and/or sprint that includes planning, design, build and execution tasks, while providing guidance to resolve problems as issues arise.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of current test automation process, procedures and best practices to ensure that all QE work is being performed accordingly. Ability to think outside the box and adjust to IT and business needs collaboratively in order to meet project objectives.
  • Adheres to all organizational standards and best practices.
  • Provide Rough Order of Magnitude Estimates (ROMs) and forecast resource needs for automation projects.
  • Establish and maintain metrics which measure resource productivity, test progress and automation effectiveness.
  • Identify potential improvements, best practices and efficiency to test automation process, implement and/or communicate solutions.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical, problem solving and time management skills.
  • Provide QE input into root cause analysis and conduct lessons learned sessions with IT/BA/QA following each release.
  • Provide transparency into automation activities and defect management to project / program leadership.
  • Should be able to perform setting up frameworks on multiple application platforms for building robust, scalable, and high-quality test automation solutions for functional, regression and In-sprint testing.
  • Work with QE team members, software developers and system and database administrators to trouble-shoot test failures in the various test environments. This may include trouble-shooting database issues using SQL queries, reviewing web server and application server logs, etc.
  • Partner with Automation Architect/Sr. Automation Engineer/Lead on all automation activities to ensure alignment with the organizational strategy and approach.

Qualifications
Knowledge and Requirements
  • College Degree preferred in Computer Science, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum 8+ years of hands-on Software Testing, Development and/or Test Management experience, including experience in advanced test automation strategies.
  • Experience with BDD and TDD a plus. Experience with Azure DevOps and Azure cloud testing platforms a plus.
  • Experienced with C#, Java, .NET, SQL or other software languages.
  • Experienced with both UI and Rest API automation.
  • Experienced with Object-Oriented Design and Patterns.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and time management skills.
  • Experienced in working with AGILE, DevOps CI/CD process administration methodology.
  • Knowledge of different test methods/tools such as MS Test, TestNG, JUnit/NUnit, GIT, Selenium WebDriver, and so forth. Knowledge of current trends in automation and ability to quickly pick up and learn new technologies and concepts independently, e.g., AI, ML, IoT,.

AI & Advanced QE Capabilities (Must Have):
  • Ability to create and work with AI agents for testing/automation
  • Use AI tools (Copilot etc.) for test generation, script creation, and debugging
  • Validate and test AI-generated code and outputs
  • Understand prompting and AI guardrails

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.
Pay Range
USD $101,000.00 - USD $137,000.00 /Yr.
