What You'll Do
The Principal Automation & Control Engineer serves as the technical authority for substation automation and control systems across large-scale electrical infrastructure supporting hyperscale data center campuses and grid-integrated energy systems. This role is responsible for ensuring highly reliable, secure, and compliant automation, monitoring, and control systems that support mission-critical operations while meeting utility and grid operator requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide technical guidance design, architecture, and technical oversight of Substation Automation and Control Systems across HV/MV substations and transmission interconnections.
• Review automation philosophies, control logic, HMI design, alarm management, and sequence of operations.
• Provide technical guidance for SCADA, Grid Control Systems (GCS), Network Operations Center (NOC), and communication system integration.
• Provide technical guidance in design, and validate Load Shedding , Remedial Action Schemes (RAS), and automated system restoration strategies.
• Collaborate with Protection & Control, Substation Design, Telecommunications, Power System Studies, and Data Center Engineering teams.
• Develop standards for Digital Substations utilizing IEC 61850, IEDs, and advanced automation technologies.
• Ensure compliance with ERCOT/ISO requirements, NERC PRC/CIP standards, IEEE standards, and applicable NEC codes.
• Review EPC automation designs, SCADA architecture, communication networks, control logic, and commissioning documentation.
• Provide technical guidance in NOC integration, asset performance monitoring, event analysis, and continuous improvement.
• Develop engineering standards and technology roadmaps for OT and digital substation systems.
Requirements
Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• 12+ years of experience in substation automation, SCADA, and industrial control systems.
• Experience with substations, data centers, grid interconnections, and utility automation systems.
