Job description

Title: Controls / Automation Engineer (Mid-Level / Senior-Level)

Shift: Day Shift (Full-Time)

Salary: $110k - $120k

Controls / Automation Engineer Role:

Our client is seeking a highly motivated engineer responsible for the design, programming, commissioning, and support of industrial automation systems for a wide range of manufacturing and process industry customers. This role exists to successfully manage complex automation projects from initial concept through startup while ensuring technical excellence and ultimate customer satisfaction.

Controls / Automation Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, program, test, and commission industrial automation and control systems
  • Program and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and CompactLogix PLC systems
  • Develop and support Allen-Bradley FactoryTalk View SE and ME HMI applications
  • Configure and program Rockwell Kinetix motion control systems and servo applications
  • Develop and troubleshoot Siemens PLC and HMI applications using TIA Portal
  • Manage automation projects from initial design through final implementation
  • Develop functional specifications, control narratives, and project documentation
  • Interface directly with customers to define requirements and provide technical support
  • Participate in machine startups, commissioning activities, and customer acceptance testing
  • Troubleshoot existing automation systems and support field service personnel during installations
  • Collaborate with electrical designers, technicians, and project managers to deliver high-quality projects on schedule and within budget

Controls / Automation Engineer Reporting Relationships:

This position reports to the Engineering Manager (or designated technical lead) and collaborates collaboratively with electrical designers, technicians, and project managers. No direct reports are listed for this role.

About You:

  • Possess a minimum of five years of hands-on industrial automation programming experience
  • Hold an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • Demonstrate strong programming expertise with Allen-Bradley Logix PLC platforms and FactoryTalk View
  • Show proficiency in configuring Rockwell Kinetix motion control and Siemens TIA Portal systems
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and control system documentation accurately
  • Manage automation or controls projects effectively from start to finish
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication alongside strong customer service skills
  • Troubleshoot complex systems and provide reliable problem-solving solutions
  • Possess experience with industrial networks such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, and Modbus
  • Bring preferred experience utilizing VFDs, process control systems, and industrial safety systems
  • Draw on previous experience supporting the steel, manufacturing, automotive, or process industries
  • Work self-motivated and independently, while also functioning well within a team environment
