What is an audit executive?

Audit Executives are professionals responsible for evaluating and examining a company's financial records, internal controls, and compliance with regulatory standards. They help ensure that organizations follow proper accounting procedures and identify any areas of risk or inefficiency. Audit Executives may work internally within a company or for external audit firms, conducting audits, preparing reports, and recommending improvements to processes and policies. Their role is vital in maintaining transparency, accuracy, and accountability within an organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an audit executive?

To thrive as an Audit Executive, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, risk assessment, and compliance, usually supported by a degree in accounting or finance and preferably a professional certification like CA, CPA, or ACCA. Familiarity with audit management software, data analytics tools, and ERP systems is important for efficient auditing processes. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you identify issues and present findings clearly. These skills ensure accurate audits, regulatory compliance, and valuable insights for organizational improvement.

What are some common challenges faced by audit executives when working on multiple client projects simultaneously?

Audit Executives often manage several client engagements at once, which can present challenges such as balancing competing deadlines, adapting to different client industries, and maintaining a high level of attention to detail. Effective time management and organizational skills are crucial, as is the ability to communicate clearly with both clients and internal team members. Many Audit Executives find it helpful to leverage project management tools and establish strong collaboration with colleagues to ensure all deliverables are met without compromising quality.

Job description

Description

Are you analytical, detail-oriented, and interested in building a career in finance? Illinois State Credit Union is looking for a Finance & Investment Specialist to join our team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career finance professional who wants exposure to more than one area of the financial world. You'll work alongside experienced leaders while gaining hands-on experience with investments, liquidity management, financial analysis, institutional relationship development, regulatory reporting, market research, and executive-level reporting.

We're looking for someone who enjoys digging into the numbers, keeping complex processes organized, building relationships, and asking, "Is there a better way to do this?"

What You'll Do

As our Finance & Investment Specialist, you'll help manage the recurring research, monitoring, reporting, relationship development, and administrative work that supports the Credit Union's overall financial strategy.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Support ย ย ย ย ย our investment and liquidity management activities, including ย ย ย ย ย monitoring cash positions, investment opportunities, rates, maturities, ย ย ย ย ย and upcoming liquidity needs.
  • Develop ย ย ย ย ย and maintain an investment ladder to track what is maturing, when ย ย ย ย ย funds will be needed, and opportunities for future investment.
  • Manage ย ย ย ย ย our non-member share certificate portfolio, including tracking rates, ย ย ย ย ย terms, renewals, maturities, and funding relationships.
  • Seek ย ย ย ย ย out and develop relationships with banks, credit unions, financial ย ย ย ย ย professionals, and other institutional funding sources to market our ย ย ย ย ย certificate products and generate new deposit opportunities.
  • Negotiate ย ย ย ย ย rates and terms with institutional depositors with the goal of ย ย ย ย ย attracting and retaining certificate funding at competitive rates while ย ย ย ย ย reducing reliance on third-party brokerage services.
  • Proactively ย ย ย ย ย communicate with existing and prospective institutional partners, ย ย ย ย ย including outreach by phone and email, relationship follow-up, and ย ย ย ย ย presenting available certificate opportunities.
  • Research ย ย ย ย ย investment and certificate opportunities and provide finance ย ย ย ย ย leadership with organized information to support investment decisions.
  • Monitor ย ย ย ย ย financial markets and interest rates, including deposit, certificate, ย ย ย ย ย loan, and investment rate trends.
  • Compile ย ย ย ย ย financial and peer data, including NCUA 5300 Call Report and Financial ย ย ย ย ย Performance Report information, to help leadership understand trends and ย ย ย ย ย compare our performance with peer credit unions.
  • Support ย ย ย ย ย Asset/Liability Management monitoring by maintaining reports and ย ย ย ย ย tracking portfolio concentrations, liquidity, and established limits.
  • Assist ย ย ย ย ย with board and management reporting, including assembling board ย ย ย ย ย packets, financial schedules, charts, and supporting documentation.
  • Research ย ย ย ย ย regulatory and industry developments, including relevant NCUA ย ย ย ย ย releases, economic updates, and financial-market information.
  • Assist ย ย ย ย ย with other finance-related activities such as participation loan ย ย ย ย ย administration, SERP administration, contingency funding documentation, ย ย ย ย ย grant research, policy maintenance, audit and examination requests, and ย ย ย ย ย special projects.

What We're Looking For

You don't need to walk in knowing every aspect of credit union finance. We're looking for someone with a strong foundation, an analytical mindset, confidence communicating with others, and the desire to learn.

What Success Looks Like

You'll become a go-to resource for keeping our investment, liquidity, and recurring finance activities organized, accurate, and moving forward.

You'll help us better anticipate investment maturities and liquidity needs, build a disciplined investment ladder, develop direct institutional funding relationships, identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary brokerage and funding costs, strengthen our financial and peer reporting, and create greater visibility into our financial position.

Most importantly, your work will give our finance leaders better information and more capacity to focus on higher-level strategy and decision-making.

Why Illinois State Credit Union?

This isn't a finance position where you'll spend every day doing the exact same thing.

You'll gain exposure to investments, liquidity, financial analysis, institutional relationship development, negotiation, regulatory reporting, lending portfolios, market research, and executive and board-level reporting-giving you the opportunity to build a broad foundation in financial institution management.
