Sound Tech Engineer
Classification: Independent Contractor (1099)

Position Overview
Encounter Church Atlanta is seeking a skilled Sound Tech Engineer to provide professional audio services for Sunday worship services, special events, and ministry gatherings. This is an independent contractor position compensated on a project/per-service basis. The ideal candidate brings technical excellence and a heart for ministry, understanding that quality sound is a form of service to God and congregation alike.
Responsibilities
โขย ย ย Operate front-of-house (FOH) audio system during live worship services and events
โขย ย ย Manage in-ear monitor (IEM) and stage monitor mixes for worship team and speakers
โขย ย ย Conduct pre-service soundchecks and coordinate audio needs with worship team leads
โขย ย ย Set up and break down audio equipment in accordance with service schedules
โขย ย ย Route and support livestream/broadcast audio in coordination with the media team
โขย ย ย Troubleshoot audio issues efficiently and discreetly during live services
โขย ย ย Maintain cleanliness and organization of the tech booth and stage
โขย ย ย Communicate proactively with worship and production leadership on technical needs
Qualifications
Required
โขย ย ย 4+ years of demonstrated experience operating live sound in a church, event, or venue setting
โขย ย ย Proficiency with digital mixing consoles (e.g., Behringer X32/M32, Yamaha CL/QL, Allen & Heath)
โขย ย ย Working knowledge of gain structure, EQ, compression, and effects in a live environment
โขย ย ย Strong critical listening skills, particularly in a worship music context
โขย ย ย Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to scheduled services and rehearsals
โขย ย ย Alignment with Encounter Churchโs faith values and ministry culture
Preferred
โขย ย ย Bachelorโs Degree in Audio Engineering, Music Production, or a related field
โขย ย ย Studio production and music recording experience, including session tracking, mixing in a DAW environment, and signal chain management
โขย ย ย Keyboard proficiency and working knowledge of MIDI, virtual instruments, or keys-based worship production
โขย ย ย Familiarity with Dante/AVB audio networking or digital stage boxes
โขย ย ย Experience with ProPresenter, Reaper, or live broadcast/streaming audio
โขย ย ย Background in worship production or professional AV environments
โขย ย ย Ability to read chord charts or basic musical notation
Contractor Terms
โขย ย ย This is a 1099 independent contractor engagement; no benefits are provided
โขย ย ย Compensation is negotiated per service or project; invoicing is contractorโs responsibility
โขย ย ย Contractor is responsible for their own tax withholding and self-employment taxes
โขย ย ย Engagement is at-will and may be structured as ongoing or event-specific
Typical Service Commitment
โขย ย ย Sunday servicesย (11:00 AM) โ arrive approximately 3 to 4 hours prior to service start
โขย ย ย Midweek rehearsals (Thursdays at 8:00 PM) as scheduled with the worship leader and team
โขย ย ย Special services: conferences, revivals, holiday services, and community events
