Job description

Segal McCambridge, a nationally recognized litigation firm, is seeking an Associate Attorney to join our General Liability and Complex Litigation team in our Chicago office. This practice handles sophisticated, high-exposure matters involving product liability, catastrophic personal injury, medical malpractice, pharmaceutical and professional negligence, transportation, construction defect, and other complex civil litigation.
This is an outstanding opportunity for attorneys who want meaningful hands-on litigation experience, direct client exposure, and the ability to manage cases while working alongside highly respected trial attorneys in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Our associates are given substantial responsibility early and are supported by partners who are deeply committed to mentorship, training, and long-term professional growth.
This is a hybrid position with two in-office days per week.
What You'll Do
As an associate at Segal McCambridge, you will:
  • Manage an active litigation caseload with partner guidance and support
  • Draft pleadings, motions, written discovery, and other litigation-related filings
  • Take and defend depositions, appear in court, and participate in mediations and arbitrations
  • Handle day-to-day case strategy and client communication
  • Work on complex, high-stakes matters for sophisticated national clients
  • Gain hands-on experience in all phases of litigation through trial and resolution

This role is ideal for attorneys seeking increased responsibility, courtroom exposure, and the opportunity to develop as trial lawyers within a highly collaborative litigation team.
What We're Looking For
  • Active license to practice law in Illinois
  • Minimum of 2 years of civil defense litigation experience
  • Strong legal research, writing, motion practice, and advocacy skills
  • Experience handling depositions, discovery, client reporting, and case management responsibilities
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • A proactive mindset and willingness to take ownership of assignments and client matters

Preferred qualifications include:
  • Trial experience
  • Federal court experience
  • Experience handling mediations and arbitrations
  • Dual licensure in another jurisdiction
