Experience Required:
  • Social services, counseling, or similar background.

Personal Qualifications:

Function
Under the supervision of the Director, the attendance officer performs duties attached to proper functioning of district wide follow-up of students with poor attendance, leavers, active and potential dropouts and truancy related problems at the assigned high school campuses.
Reports To:
Director for Admissions, Attendance, and Student Support Services
Responsibilities:
  • Works closely with school principals, staff, parents, students, and community agency representatives;
  • Monitor credit recovery completions for students who are below the 90% compulsory attendance requirements.
  • Serve as an active member of assigned campus attendance committees.
  • Review graduation plan/credits with students below the 90% compulsory attendance requirement to encourage high school completion.
  • Notifies parents and students of state law regarding attendance requirements.
  • Monitor student attendance contracts and provide ongoing updates to the student and parents.
  • Makes home visits to parents to inquire of students' nonattendance or for address verifications upon receiving principals' requests.
  • Studies cases on an individual basis; determines which attendance cases require legal proceedings;
  • Processes Request to File Legal Proceedings for Violation of Compulsory Law with the Justice of the Peace and Municipal Court;
  • Receives truancy hearings' information; prepares for truancy court appearance and presentation;
  • Serves as a District liaison in the Justices of the Peace, Juvenile, and Municipal Courts;
  • Delivers court summons to parents and students.
  • Contact students/parents on the no-show list to encourage enrollment in school or in an alternative program.
  • Organizes and prepares truancy files.
  • Maintains a working relationship with the Juvenile Assessment Center ; assists the Center on a scheduled basis.
  • Assists with maintaining truancy cases organized, filed, and up to date.
  • Assists school administrators in patrolling school grounds and surrounding areas upon request.
  • Counsels with students and/or parents regarding attendance-related issues.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed records of parent and/or student contacts.
  • Provide connections to the workforce and/or post high school education opportunities.
  • Maintain records of all student/parent/teacher/contacts.
  • Support efforts for the annual district "Keep Ever y Youth in School" (KEYS) Walk.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the director.
