Job description

Everforth ECS is seeking a skilled System Administrator to join a team providing maintenance, operation, and sustainment support for Air Force Financial Systems Operations (AFFSO) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), OH. This is a hybrid position supporting both remotely and on-site at WPAFB.
In this role, you'll perform System Administrator functions, including being responsible for activities related to maintaining a hybrid infrastructure environment spanning on-premises and AWS cloud services. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of applications, including environments leveraging AWS Elastic Beanstalk, RDS, S3, and Apache Tomcat.
To be successful in this role, you will have senior level understanding of system log monitoring, backups, script creation and maintenance, operating system security, operating system patching, loading/configuring of new servers on-prem(virtual/Linux) and cloud(AWS) environments, hardware planning/architecture, and identification/resolution of problems within government networks.
You will have strong knowledge of interpreting/drafting software requirements in a technically proficient manner as identified by the customer and providing technical advice on potential impacts requirements have on system sustainment.
Specific tasks you will perform as a System Administrator include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensuring long-term requirements of systems operations and administration are included in the overall information systems planning of the organization.
  • Installing, maintaining, configuring, and ensuring integrity of computer software
  • Managing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-based AWS environments including EC2 instances, S3 buckets, RDS, and Beanstalk deployments.
  • Implementing operating system enhancements that will improve the reliability and performance of the system.
  • Implementing security controls as directed by policy and the security specialist relating to information assurance procedures and systems.
  • Preparing activity and progress reports relating to the information systems audit function.
  • Providing second-tier support to end-users for PC, server, and hardware.
  • Handling problems that the first tier of help desk support is unable to resolve.
  • Interacting with network services, software systems engineering, and/or applications development to restore service and/or identify and correct core problem.
  • Simulating or recreating user problems to resolve operating difficulties.
  • Recommending systems modifications to reduce user problems.
  • Maintaining currency and the highest level of technical skill in field of expertise
  • Installing, supporting, and maintaining computer systems.
  • Performing contingency planning, assist with testing, diagnosing software and hardware failures to resolution and implementing and ensuring security preventive measures are fully functioning
  • Monitoring and enhancing system performance, and troubleshooting performance issues and outages in diverse enterprise environments

  • US. Citizenship
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems
  • Security + Certification or higher
  • 3 to 5+ years' experience in the field
  • Experience in managing servers running RedHat Linux in on-prem and cloud (AWS) environments.
  • Experience supporting database, web server, and file server platforms with planning, sizing, security, backup and recovery, maintenance, and migration.
  • Experience supporting various enterprise tools in a team environment.
  • Experience identifying problems, building solutions, and standardizing both virtual and physical environments
  • Proven ability to design and develop technical reports and integrate them with report tools.
  • Extensive understanding of system log monitoring, backups, bash script creation, privileged access management and maintenance, operating system security, quarterly operating system patching, loading/configuring of new servers, hardware planning/architecture, and identification/resolution of problems within government networks

On-Prem Specific
  • Red Hat Linux Server Premium
  • VEEAM Backup and Replication
  • VMware virtualization and experience with VM environments
  • Oracle WebLogic Server
  • Hardware/Software installation, setup, troubleshooting, and decommission
  • Experience with ports/protocols along with system-to-system file transmission
  • Experience deploying war files across multiple servers.

Cloud Environment Specific
  • AWS cloud services and migration efforts for a PaaS architecture.
  • Knowledge and understanding or Oracle RDS
