Assistant Superintendent - Federal Construction (USACE, NAVFAC, VA, GSA)

Location: Marion, IN

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: Competitive, experience-based; entry level

Overview

VALIANT Construction LLC is seeking an experienced Traveling Assistant Superintendent to support the Superintendent in overseeing daily construction activities for U.S. Federal Government Healthcare Construction Projects ranging from $10M to $50M. This role requires a proactive and detailed professional with hands-on experience in construction management, site safety, and quality assurance (or willing to learn). The ideal candidate will assist with project planning and implementation, ensure compliance with safety standards, and maintain high-quality workmanship throughout the project life cycle. The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with government officials, subcontractors and internal teams to drive project success.


Key Responsibilities

Job Safety & Maintenance

  • Maintain a safe and clean job site
  • Preconstruction preparation of the jobsite (office, office trailer, poster(s), first aid kit, fire extinguisher(s), etc.)
  • Keep the jobsite and all related construction materials secure
  • Open/close the jobsite in absence of the lead supervisor
  • Monitor cleanliness and hold all subcontractors responsible for daily cleanup
  • Assist with managing all aspects of federal construction projects from initiation to completion
  • Ensure compliance with all federal regulations, including but not limited to FAR, DFARS, and agency specific guidelines
  • Review and interpret contract specifications, project specifications and safety standards
  • Assist Superintendent with overseeing project schedules, budgets, and cost controls to ensure financial and operational efficiency


Construction Support & Coordination

  • Manage and maintain Foreman Schedule
  • Manage and maintain Daily Logs, photos and documentation
  • Perform basic skills including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, etc., after general cleanup
  • Maintain personal and company provided tools
  • Oversee all aspects of the project from planning to implementation
  • Allocate resources for assigned projects
  • Communicate and coordinate with Project Manager, CORs, Subcontractors, architects, engineers, and clients (i.e., Government, etc.)
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship that adhere to original plans and specifications
  • Ability to read blueprints

Team Leadership & Financial Management

  • Coordinate with Superintendents, Safety Officers, and Quality Control Managers to uphold project standards
  • Participate in pre-construction planning, budgeting, and scheduling
  • Monitor subcontractor/vendor payment applications
  • Represent the company in client meetings, progress briefings, and industry events


Required Education and Experience

  • Track 1: Four (4) years or more working in commercial/federal construction as a tradesman in an industry apprentice program. One (1) or more years as a crew lead/foreman
  • Track 2: Associate degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and two-year related experience or training. Combination of education and experience must be four (4) years or greater
  • Track 3: Bachelors' degree (AA) from four (4) year college or university


Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, or sit
  • Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
  • Continually required to talk/listen
  • Continually utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use a keyboard
  • Occasionally required to lift/push/carry items less than 25 pounds
