At Home Proofreader information

What is an at home proofreader?

At Home Proofreaders are professionals who review and correct written content for errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting from their own homes. They work on a variety of documents, such as articles, books, academic papers, and business materials. These proofreaders use their keen attention to detail and strong language skills to ensure that texts are clear, accurate, and polished before publication or submission. Working remotely offers flexibility, and most At Home Proofreaders communicate with clients through email or online platforms.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an at home proofreader?

To thrive as an At Home Proofreader, you need exceptional attention to detail, a strong grasp of grammar and spelling, and often a degree in English or a related field. Familiarity with style guides (such as APA, MLA, or Chicago), word processing software, and proofreading tools like Grammarly or Track Changes in Microsoft Word is typically expected. Strong time management, self-motivation, and effective written communication are standout soft skills in this remote role. These skills and qualities ensure high-quality, error-free documents and reliable, independent work from a home office.

What is the difference between At Home Proofreader vs Freelance Editor?

AspectAt Home ProofreaderFreelance Editor

Employer & Industry UsagePublishing, academic, corporate, freelance clientsPublishing houses, authors, businesses, freelance clients
Search & Comparison IntentPeople looking for proofreading jobs or servicesPeople seeking editing or content refinement services

At Home Proofreaders focus on correcting grammar, spelling, and punctuation, often working with texts at the final stage. Freelance Editors handle more comprehensive editing, including structure, style, and content improvements. Both roles are remote and require strong language skills, but editors typically have broader responsibilities and credentials.

What are common challenges faced by at home proofreaders, and how can they be managed?

At-home proofreaders often encounter challenges such as managing distractions in a home environment and maintaining consistent focus during long editing sessions. To address these, it’s helpful to establish a dedicated workspace, set clear work hours, and take regular breaks to avoid fatigue. Additionally, at-home proofreaders may need to communicate frequently with clients or team members remotely, so strong organizational and time management skills are essential. Leveraging digital tools for project tracking and staying up to date with style guides can further enhance accuracy and efficiency.

Job description

GOLD SPECTRUM CBD LLC

Graphic Designer & Brand Creative

Department: Marketing & Brand Reports To: Leadership Location: Bristol / Johnson City, TN

POSITION SUMMARY

The Graphic Designer & Brand Creative is a hands-on, senior-level individual contributor responsible for owning all visual brand output across digital, print, and physical product channels. This role drives end-to-end design production—from concept through print-ready delivery—spanning product packaging, label systems, email marketing campaigns, social media content, ecommerce merchandising, and brand collateral for Gold Spectrum CBD and its sister brand, The Smoky Grass Station. This is a build-it-all role. You will be the sole creative resource designing product packaging that ships to retail shelves, shooting and retouching product photography, managing visual content on a live Shopify storefront, and producing compliant marketing assets in a regulated industry. If you want ownership and variety over a narrow lane, this is the seat.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Packaging & Label Design

  • Design and produce print-ready packaging for physical products including bottles, cans, boxes, sleeves, and vape packaging across the Gold Spectrum and Thank Me Later product lines
  • Build and maintain production-ready label files with dielines, regulatory panels, bleed, CMYK color specifications, and vendor-specific print specs
  • Coordinate with print vendors and co-packers to ensure artwork meets mechanical and material requirements

Brand Design & Collateral

  • Create all visual assets including digital ads, social media graphics, email templates, print materials, internal brand collateral, and trade show assets
  • Maintain absolute brand consistency across every customer-facing touchpoint, evolving the visual identity as the company scales
  • Continuously refine creative templates, asset libraries, and design systems to support speed and scalability

Email Marketing

  • Design high-converting email templates and campaigns within Klaviyo, managing layout, visual strategy, and optimization for engagement and deliverability
  • Collaborate with marketing on campaign calendar execution, A/B test creative, and performance iteration

Social Media Content

  • Create platform-specific content for Instagram, Facebook, X, and TikTok that drives audience growth, engagement, and brand awareness
  • Develop short-form visual content (static, carousel, and motion-ready assets) aligned to each platform’s best practices

Ecommerce & Shopify

  • Manage and optimize product listings, landing pages, and visual merchandising on the Shopify storefront
  • Ensure all active SKUs are supported with high-quality, optimized product imagery and lifestyle photography
  • Implement basic on-page SEO best practices for product images, alt text, and visual content

Photography & Retouching

  • Plan, shoot, and retouch product photography for packaging, ecommerce listings, and marketing assets
  • Maintain a consistent visual style across all product and lifestyle imagery

Compliance

  • Ensure all creative output complies with state and federal hemp/cannabis advertising regulations, platform content policies, and packaging/labeling laws
  • Stay current on evolving compliance requirements across active markets (TN, GA, SC, FL, AL, NC, MS, MO, and others as the company expands)

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate directly with leadership, marketing, operations, and cross-functional teams to translate business objectives into compelling visual solutions
  • Manage multiple concurrent design projects, meeting deadlines without sacrificing quality

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Brand Consistency: 100% adherence to brand guidelines across all channels and materials
  • Compliance Accuracy: Zero compliance violations across all published creative—packaging, digital, and print
  • Asset Turnaround: Design assets delivered within agreed SLA timelines; emergency requests triaged same-day
  • Email Campaign Performance: Measurable improvement in open rates, click-through rates, and visual engagement quarter over quarter
  • Social Media Engagement: Consistent growth in engagement metrics (likes, shares, comments, saves) tied to designed content
  • Product Visual Coverage: 100% of active SKUs supported with current, high-quality product imagery
  • Project Completion Rate: ≥ 95% of design projects delivered on time and within scope
  • Revision Efficiency: Average of two or fewer revision rounds per project through clear communication and strong first drafts
  • Proofing Accuracy: 100% accuracy in final deliverables; proofing is the designer’s responsibility before handoff

Note: Compliance and proofing KPIs are measured from day one. Campaign performance and engagement growth targets are established collaboratively during the first 90 days.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • 3–5 years of professional graphic design experience, including physical product packaging or label design
  • Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign (proficiency required)
  • Figma or equivalent collaborative design tool (working proficiency required)
  • Klaviyo or comparable email marketing platform (Mailchimp, HubSpot) — hands-on template design experience required
  • Shopify: Experience managing product pages, visual merchandising, and basic theme-level content updates
  • Photography & Retouching: Ability to plan, shoot, and edit product photography in-house
  • Print Production Knowledge: Dielines, bleed, CMYK, prepress, and vendor file delivery
  • Cannabis/Hemp Compliance: Familiarity with state and federal hemp advertising restrictions and compliant packaging/labeling practices
  • Basic SEO: Understanding of on-page SEO principles as they relate to product imagery and visual content
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating range across packaging, digital, and brand work

BONUS POINTS

  • Motion graphics or short-form video editing (After Effects, Premiere Pro)
  • Experience with multi-state cannabis compliance across different regulatory frameworks
  • Familiarity with Clover POS, Zoho, or similar retail/operations platforms
  • Experience in CPG, beverage, or supplement packaging design
