Job Overview

Mainspring Energy is seeking an Associate Technical Writer to create and maintain high-quality manufacturing and service documentation. You will be a key contributor to moving our breakthrough technology from an engineering environment into high-volume production.

The ideal candidate possesses excellent mechanical intuition, a natural curiosity for complex mechanical and electrical systems, and a proven ability to distill technical processes into unambiguous, easy-to-understand documentation.
This position requires collaboration across a diverse team of technicians, engineers, and managers. You must be comfortable working fully onsite in Menlo Park, at times in our manufacturing shop areas, while maintaining a strategic view of how our documentation can best support a variety of audiences.

Repsponsibilities
  • Execute Onsite Documentation: Work fully onsite in Menlo Park, at times in our manufacturing shops. Your work will begin with a hands-on "learning by doing" period, participating in the assembly of our latest product
  • Author Technical Content: Produce new and edit existing digital manufacturing documentation, including installation, testing, and service operations, in accordance with standardized documentation styles
  • Generate Technical Visuals: Frequently use CAD software (including Solidworks and Composer) to create visuals facilitating technical understanding of our product
  • Manage Revision Control: Help develop and implement systems for company-wide documentation management and revision control to ensure accuracy across the organization
  • Support Industrial Engineering: Participate in build sequence planning, efficiency improvements, and a variety of other projects to support our global manufacturing partners
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work collaboratively across a diverse team of technicians, engineers, and managers in an environment where attention to detail is critical
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • Experience: 1+ years of professional experience in technical writing, documentation control, or a related engineering/manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Communication Skills: Excellent writing, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; native-level proficiency in English is required
  • Mechanical Intuition: A practical, "hands-on" approach with prior experience using shop tools and mechanical assembly
  • Technical Literacy: Proven ability to create and interpret technical visuals, including CAD models, schematics, and process flows
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient using Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides); basic experience with CAD software is preferred, but training will be provided
  • Detail Orientation: Exceptional attention to detail paired with a strong interest in deeply understanding complex mechanical and electrical systems
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organization and prioritization skills with the ability to distill complex processes into clear instructions
$72,000 - $82,000 a year
This position is onsite at our Menlo Park HQ. The salary will be adjusted to reflect local market conditions based on employee location as well as the experience of the employee. Along with the base salary, Mainspring offers pre-IPO stock options + benefits.

Does your experience not meet all of our posted requirements? Studies have shown that some people are less likely to apply to positions unless they meet every listed requirement. At Mainspring, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, flexible, and collaborative environment, so if you want to help us transition the world to clean and affordable electricity, and don't meet all posted requirements for a particular role, we'd still love to hear from you. Mainspring can sometimes be flexible enough to shift responsibilities for the right person, or otherwise identify open or upcoming roles that may better fit your professional background.

In more traditional words, Mainspring Energy, Inc is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or protected veteran status and will not be discriminated against on the basis of disability.

This compensation and benefits information is based on Mainspring Energy's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. We generally do not negotiate on salary once we have made an offer. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise. New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
