ROLE OVERVIEW:
As a Full-Stack Software Engineer at Nelnet, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining end-to-end web applications. You'll work across the entire stack, from front-end interfaces to back-end systems, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance. You'll collaborate with a diverse team of developers, designers, and product managers to deliver high-quality software solutions. Additionally, you will work on our Artificial Intelligence team to build and deploy Al-centric applications that incorporate large language models.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Full-Stack Development: Design and develop responsive web applications using technologies like Tailwind, ShadCN, Typescript, and NextJS.
2. Backend Engineering: Build and maintain APls and backend services using Python, FastAPI, and Rust.
3. Al Integration: Collaborate with the Artificial Intelligence team to integrate large language models into applications, creating innovative Al-centric solutions.
4. Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor and optimize application performance for speed and scalability.
5. Cl/CD: Implement and maintain continuous integration and continuous deployment (Cl/CD) pipelines to automate and streamline the development process.
6. Infrastructure Management: Use Terraform to manage and provision infrastructure on AWS.
7. EKS Management: Deploy, manage, and scale applications using Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) to ensure high availability and reliability.
8. Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, design
solutions, and deliver features.
9. Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code. Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
10. Innovation: Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to incorporate new ideas and tools into the development process.
11. Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior developers to foster their growth and development.

Nelnet believes in a hybrid work environment that accommodates both in-office and remote work. This model promotes a positive work-life balance and culture, enabling in-person collaboration when possible while also providing benefits associated with remote work. The standard hybrid work schedule includes a 3/2 (in-office/work-from-home) split for associates that reside within 30 miles of an office.This is subject to change, based on manager discretion.

At this time, Nelnet is looking to hire candidates who live within 30 miles of the following locations:

- Lincoln, NE

- Centennial, CO

- Madison, WI

- Brownsville, TX

US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a 6C Federal security clearance are required for this role. Some travel may be required.

Starting salary range for this role is $90k - $130k annually


EDUCATION:

Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE:
1. Minimum of 3 years of experience in full-stack software development.
2. Hands-on experience with front-end technologies like Tailwind, ShadCN, Typescript, and NextJS.
3. Proficient in backend development using Python, FastAPI, and Rust.
4. Experience with deploying and managing applications on AWS.
5. Familiarity with Cl/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (laC) tools like Terraform.

COMPETENCIES- SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
1. Strong proficiency in modern JavaScript frameworks and libraries.
2. Solid understanding of web development principles and best practices.
3. Experience with containerization technologies like Docker.
4. Knowledge of RESTful APls and web services.
5. Strong understanding of integrating and deploying Al models, particularly large language models, in applications.
6. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.
7. Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to non technical stakeholders.
