About The Role Software Design Engineer

Teledyne Technologies Incorporated provides enabling technologies for industrial growth markets that require advanced technology and high reliability. These markets include aerospace and defense, factory automation, air and water quality environmental monitoring, electronics design and development, oceanographic research, deepwater oil and gas exploration and production, medical imaging and pharmaceutical research. Summary

As a software design engineer, you will work in a cross functional design team with the responsibility of understanding the target application, participating in the development of the system architecture, translating product specifications into a software design implementation, performing unit and subsystem testing on the implementation, supporting the integration of the implementation into the full system verification process, and providing product launch and post launch support. The role may include both embedded as well as application software development. Experience with any of the following programming languages would be beneficial: C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, and Python. Additionally, the role will involve supporting the existing product portfolio by addressing both feature request as well as addressing performance issues that are not meeting product functionality specifications. Good communication skills with a proactive approach to the design process are important characteristics necessary for success as a member of the software development team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include the Following. Other Duties May Be Assigned.

  • Designs software solutions for both embedded systems and application-level development.
  • Performs design, analysis, and verification testing of a software modules as part of the new product development process.
  • Participates in unit, subsystem, and system level testing as part of the design verification process. Will participate in design and test reviews, conduction problem analysis to resolve performance issues and document outcomes.
  • Supports the completion of the product release and post product launch support processes.
  • May perform systems modeling, simulation, and analysis in designing user experience models, functional prototyping, and the closure of technology knowledge gaps.
  • Works collaboratively with other engineering disciplines on architecture definition representing the software implementation.
  • May participate in the customer discovery process as part of completing the user requirements and product expectations definition.
  • Will be involved with developing the necessary models as part of defining and documenting the design assumptions. This serves as key input to the detailed design phase.
  • Will be responsible for providing input concerning design timelines, support and maintenance assessments, and other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Responsible for supporting meetings with management, providing the status of deliverables, identifying issues, and outlining an issues resolution course of action.
  • Provides application support to other departments and personnel as needed.
  • Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in a related field and 2-5 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
