About the Role

The Export Compliance Engineering Sr Associate will be part of the Wescam Inc. Engineering team with close collaboration with Trade Compliance.  The Export Compliance Engineering Sr Associate will provide technical expertise to the Wescam Inc. and Global Trade Compliance teams as they ensure compliance with regulatory, corporate, and local compliance requirements for the jurisdiction and classification determination of all commodities, technical data and related services being exported from, or imported into Canada and the United States.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Conducting export jurisdiction and classification reviews and determinations of commodities, software, technical data and related defense services under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Canada's Export and Import Permits Act (EIPA) and Controlled Goods Program (CGP) / Defence Production Act (DPA).
  • Supporting the export Commodity Jurisdiction (CJ) and Commodity Classification Requests (CCR) processes as needed.
  • Reviewing supplier and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) classifications and document internal concurrence or re-classification for export and/or import.
  • Supporting the monitoring, maintenance, and retention of records and documentation used for jurisdiction and classification determinations in accordance with regulations and L3Harris policy.
  • Supporting compliance audits and assessments.
  • Staying current on all SME training requirements.
  • Identifying and recommending process improvements.

Required Capabilities

  • Must possess deep engineering product analysis, technical concepts at a part and component functionality level.
  • Must have good organizational skills, as well as good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Requires keen attention to detail, with the ability to learn and comprehend highly detailed laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform research across both technical and regulatory / legal environments is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, comprehend, interpret and follow complicated written and verbal instructions, interpret regulations, and the ability to communicate both orally and in writing at a professional level.
  • Perform duties with minimum supervision and participate in cross-functional projects as assigned.
  • Experience with OCR EASE is an asset.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Wescam products is an asset.
  • Working experience in the aerospace / defense industry is asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, comfortable with project ownership and accountability.
  • Action and result oriented with strong drive and resilience.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with people at all levels. Works to influence others to accept individual or team's views or practices and changes to concepts, processes and approaches.
  • Requires practical knowledge of job area.
  • Must be able to travel as necessary (up to 10% travel).

Desired Education and Experiences 

  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
