Job description

Operations Engineer (Associate, Mid-Level)

Company:

The Boeing Company

Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS), Space and Launch Division, seeks an Associate or Mid-Level Operations Engineer to serve as a Satellite Systems Engineer supporting the team in Schriever, CO. Our team develops new global military satellite communications (MILSATCOM) ground systems that manage transmission of protected tactical waveform (a type of secure, anti-jam communication) over Boeing-built Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) satellites and terminals. Space and Launch work with proprietary customers and creates next generation technologies in space. We work all facets of engineering: technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

The Satellite Systems Engineer is part of a high-performing team immersed in dynamic satellite operations and engineering activities. As a member of our WGS on-orbit team, you support operations and engineering for 10 on-orbit satellites.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Advise customers on satellite operation and maintenance.
  • Advise customers on ground command and control system operations.
  • Participate in technical meetings, author database, and software change requests.
  • Perform ground computer system software and database testing.
  • Author, maintain, review, and support satellite operations procedures. Configure and run simulations to support procedure validation.
  • Conduct technical analyses and studies then provide recommendations.
  • Perform satellite data trending and analysis to determine spacecraft performance.
  • Perform problem solving and support other engineers in a team environment.

This position is expected to be fully onsite at Schriever SFB, CO and necessitates the ability to navigate the military base worksite where there are buildings without elevators and a long walk from the parking lot.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Active Secret U.S. Security Clearance with the ability to upgrade to TS/SCI (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)
  • Minimum years of related experience: 1+ for level 2, 3+ for level 3.
  • Systems Engineering experience.
  • Software quality test and validation experience.
  • If not already within commuting distance of Schriever AFB, willingness and ability to relocate at own expense.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Top Secret Security Clearance.
  • Experience responding to anomalies for on-orbit communications satellites.
  • Experience working closely with US Military customers in an operational and training environment.
  • Familiarity with developing software or engineering tools.

Typical Education & Experience:

Associate (level 2): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Mid-Level (level 3): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
