Senior Associate - Finance Data and Technology Risk Advisor

Capital One is seeking a motivated professional for a Senior Associate risk advisory position within the Finance Risk Management (FRM) team. FRM associates are engaged and insightful risk management partners working across the Finance organization to execute robust and proactive risk management programs, improve effectiveness and efficiency of operation while reducing risk, and influence decisions in support of our stakeholders and internal customers. Our risk organization strives to enable a strong culture of risk management across Finance that is adaptable to an ever-changing environment.

This position will support our Finance Product and Data Solutions (FPDS) organization with a heavy focus on technology and data risks relative to the processes that power day to day financial operations and drive our Finance organizational strategy. This role will also have opportunities to engage in other finance-related initiatives in support of our business partners or the FRM team. An ability to thrive in ambiguity and make strong connections to enable thorough risk identification, effective problem solving, and grow stakeholder trust will contribute to the candidate's success.

General Responsibilities:

  • Support the FRM data risk lead for FPDS

  • Provide risk advisory services to the Finance Divisional Data Risk Officer, and various data and product teams

  • Foster productive networks and relationships to provide excellent advisory services to FPDS, business, and technology stakeholders

  • Perform risk assessments to ensure teams across Finance are adhering to internal risk standards, e.g. Enterprise Risk Management, Information and Data Management, or Technology Operations expectations

  • Synthesize information from disparate sources that enables FRM to influence business, product, and technology leaders to make grounded, risk-based decisions - identify themes to support the risk story

  • Assist with the preparation and execution of audit and regulatory exams as they pertain to responsible areas

  • Champion ideas related to process or controls improvements with considerations for emerging technologies as a means to mitigate risks

  • Identify opportunities to continually mature our FRM practices and governance

  • Provide risk education and support to stakeholders as the risk subject matter expert within areas assigned

  • Report on the health of work assigned, ensuring sufficient awareness and transparency to leadership

  • Develop and maintain documentation to include procedures and presentation materials

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience

  • At least 2 years of experience in a Finance-related field

  • At least 2 years of Operational Risk advisory or Audit experience with data or technology relevance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience advising and/or validating the effectiveness of Operational Risks and Controls - Data, Technology, and/or Business Process risks

  • 1+ year of experience related to product or IT project management

  • Education or experience with cloud-based technologies

  • Experience assessing Generative AI and Agentic AI risks

  • Risk Management, or Product Management, or Process Engineering certifications (APRM, CDMP, CPM, Six Sigma, BPM etc.)

  • Strong critical thinking with an ability to flex among and balance changing priorities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Prior experience with Google Suite

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $111,200 - $126,900 for Sr. Analyst, Capital Markets & Risk


Richmond, VA: $101,100 - $115,400 for Sr. Analyst, Capital Markets & Risk










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
