Job description

The Post Delivery & Surface Ship Support organization is looking for a strong candidate to support the DDG 1000 Planning Yard (PY) contract.  The overarching objective of this position is to ensure the program meets or exceeds its performance goals in the areas of Technical Quality, Schedule, Cost & Management.  This will require daily coordination with individuals from the Program Office, Program Controls, Estimating, Design & Engineering, Planning, Supply Chain, Fabrication Planning, Fabrication Facilities & Warehousing.  There will also be extensive interactions with our Navy customers at SUPSHIP Bath, PMS-500.

Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), the Sr. Project Manager, Programs ensures compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards while coordinating with other key stakeholders to meet overall milestones.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety Leadership:
    • Take personal responsibility for your own safety through hazard identification and mitigation.
    • Ensure practices/processes are safely executed. 
    • Communicate safety concerns and model safe behaviors.
  • Project Execution:
    • Ensure that our performance in all areas of Program Award Fee categories is being monitored to identify and mitigate any issues that could impact our goal to achieve scores in the Excellent category.
    • Ensure funded changes are executed in accordance with program plans and schedules.
    • Develop and present weekly design and materials status reports and DDG 1000 PY Program Update.
    • Monitor performance metrics of each functional area to ensure cost, quality and schedule goals are being met.
    • Support the development of accurate annual Operational Business Plans and subsequent Quarterly Business Reviews including Manning Lockdown Plans.
    • Must be capable of preparing and delivering occasional presentations and reports.
    • Support contract request for proposal and support internal reviews prior to submission.
    • This position may require travel with short term durations (1 to 2 weeks) to support Program Reviews, Planning Conferences and other miscellaneous meetings.
  • Training and Development:
    • Work with your leadership team to take advantage of training opportunities for personal and professional growth.
  • Team Collaboration and Communication:
    • Foster positive customer relations and ensure the functional team leads are working with their external customer contacts to optimize customer satisfaction.
    • Establish and maintain business relationships with homeport shipyards, subcontractors and support providers.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Champion BIW Business Operating System principles and productivity enhancements.
    • Streamline processes to improve safety, quality, and cost-efficiency.

  • Associate's degree in technical or business discipline and/or 5 years of experience with Surface Combatants in the area of ship design, construction, repair or alteration required.
  • An undergraduate degree is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Project Management Skills required.
  • Familiarity with Procurement process workflow and JIRA PYMR/MAR dashboard preferred.
  • Familiarity with BIW Manufacturing Fabrication process preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Access, Excel and JIRA applications.
  • Broad knowledge of ship programs in the areas of ship design, construction, repair and alteration required.
  • Strong computer, oral, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills, coupled with an ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team preferred.
  • Demonstrated Leadership skills to foster a constructive and motivated teamwork environment preferred.
  • Must be able to effectively manage priorities and meet schedule demands.
