Position Summary
We are seeking a mission-driven, relational individual with a growth mindset to join our Intergenerational Support Team. The Program Director will provide clinical supervision to the team, which consists of two social workers who meet the known and emerging needs of members of the Treehouse community, a volunteer coordinator, and an intergenerational arts specialist. Additionally, the Program Director will develop trauma-informed programming that is responsive to known and emerging needs within our community, which includes families parenting children who have experienced foster care and/or adoption, biological children, and older adults. The right candidate takes joy in collaboratively supporting teaming, innovation, and creative and trauma-informed approaches to social work. Our intergenerational model is dependent on the strength of relationships existing across the community and with staff. This role is supervised by the Chief Executive Officer. In addition, the Program Director will collaborate across the organization with Treehouse community members and relevant staff members.
Organization Summary
For 20 years, Treehouse has worked to transform child welfare. The Treehouse Foundation drives innovation on a local, state, and national level to create positive outcomes for children and youth in foster care. Treehouse's award winning vision is that every child is rooted in family and community. The Treehouse Foundation is at an exciting juncture of growth. The primary focus of our collaborative social change efforts is the Treehouse Intergenerational Community model - the first intentional neighborhood was established in Easthampton, MA in 2006, with new sites in Boston, Worcester, and Framingham in development. Treehouse communities are intentional, affordable, highly relational neighborhoods designed to support families parenting children who have experienced foster care and older adults who form a mutual support network. We are known for innovation in foster care, vital aging, intergenerational connection, and affordable housing.
The Program Director will be responsible for the following:
  • Supervision and Management (35%):
    • Providing weekly supervision to Intergenerational Support Team, both individually and as a team.
    • Supervising BA- and MA-level interns.
    • Working collaboratively with other staff including the Associate Site Director and Volunteer Coordinator to ensure strong lines of communication and collaboration.
  • Community Engagement (20%):
    • Engaging with families and community members to support intergenerational connections.
    • Building relationships with families and youth, checking in regularly to identify and address emerging needs.
    • Building relationships with older adults, checking in regularly to identify and address emerging needs.
    • Attending community events regularly to observe community and staff dynamics, particularly during onboarding of new families, older adults, or staff.
  • Program Development and Support (35%):
    • Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and the Program Team to develop, plan and implement Treehouse Easthampton's out-of-school programming for children following trauma-informed, best practices to ensure their well-being and support intergenerational connections.
    • Working with the Volunteer Coordinator to support volunteers, facilitating debriefs with volunteers following programming events, participating weekly in the Volunteer Support Group, and being available to work closely with volunteers individually as needed.
    • Occasionally offering advocacy and support, helping families navigate paperwork and access services.
    • Occasionally providing one-on-one support to children with specific needs, including occasional transportation assistance.
    • Occasionally supporting the one-on-one and group tutoring/mentoring programs.
  • Administrative (10%):
    • Write a monthly report of Intergenerational Support activities for staff and the Board.
    • Attending weekly supervision with clinical consultants, staff meetings, and relevant training.
    • Working with the Intergenerational Support team to document contact hours for grants, ensuring that time is captured for reimbursement.

Essential qualifications and skills:
  • LICSW, MSW, or equivalent background.
  • Familiarity with clinical issues related to developmental trauma and experience of foster care, adoption, and kinship care, as well as biological children of these families.
  • Familiarity with clinical issues related to older adults and aging.
  • Experience in trauma informed-programming; fluency with trauma and trauma-informed best practices
  • Appreciation for the importance of respectful collaboration and team-work amongst staff, between staff, and with Treehouse community members.
  • Demonstrated commitment to partnering with families, children, and older adults.
  • Cultural sensitivity to the wide range of communication and parenting styles, skills and perspectives, and cultural and life experience represented among families at Treehouse.
  • Experience managing intergenerational teams.
  • Experience with intergenerational relationships, child and family support, and community-based work.
  • Ability to navigate interpersonal dynamics to support effective teaming.
  • Comfort expressing and experiencing compassion and humility.
  • Willingness to bring authentic self together with professionalism into the workplace.
  • Clean driving record and access to reliable transportation.
  • Occasional evening and/or weekend hours.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 7+ years relevant experience; previous supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • People with lived experience in foster care are encouraged to apply.
