Speech Language Pathologist - Extended School Year

Location: Bordewich/Bray Elementary School & Carson Middle School

License: 3-21 Years Speech & Language Impaired Endorsement, ELAD preferred.

Open To: Current Carson City School District full-time contracted and licensed employees only.

Application Period: Open until filled (Need 1 position filled)

Hours Per Day: Tuesday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Session Dates: June 16, 2026, through July 23, 2026, with the week of July 6th off.

Note: Position is strictly contingent upon sufficient funding and student enrollment.

Salary: Licensed contracted staff will receive the certified hourly rate of pay.

Summary Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Support Services, the Speech-Language Pathologist provides direct and indirect service to students with special needs in order to improve communication as it relates to school tasks; intervention is provided in the students academic environment and may include integrated service in the classroom, pullout sessions, collaboration with school staff, observation and consultation to the IEP team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Aligned with the ASHA Guidelines, 2010) This list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.

  • Articulates the roles and responsibilities as listed below to teachers, other school professionals, administrators, school personnel, families, and the community.
  • Meets federal and state mandated timelines for evaluations, IEPs and eligibility meetings. Before and afterschool times will remain open when required to meet mandated special education needs for eligibility and IEP meetings to ensure availability for parents and families. Participation in school/district-wide committees and/or duties will be at the discretion of the LEA representative unless it contradicts the provision of mandated special education requirements.
  • Provides diagnostic, remedial and consultative services for students with communication disorders including those involving language, articulation, fluency, voice/resonance, and swallowing.
  • Assists in the identification of students who are at risk for communication disorders because of educational, physical or mental limitations.
  • Assists in the development of the assessment process and in written procedures.
  • Completes the observation, record review, interviews, standardized/non-standardized testing procedures and an assessment report in the areas of suspected disability according to specific timelines.
  • Works as part of the multidisciplinary team in making recommendations for appropriate educational plans for students.
  • Develops and implements a therapy intervention plan designed to enable the student to benefit from special education.
  • Maintains records, materials, equipment and other treatment supplies.
  • Remains current with approaches, methodology and research in the field to foster professional growth and educationally related practices specific to area of speech-language pathology and audiology.
  • Informs classroom teachers of results of screenings, evaluations and therapy goals as well as offers suggestions and recommendations for classroom implementation and facilitation of IEP goals.
  • Offers and seeks assistance, advice and/or guidance from colleagues, other speech-language pathologists and/or supervisors and principals.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and board policies.
  • Keeps in confidence information that has been obtained in the course of professional service with respect to students and parents, unless disclosure serves professional purposes or is required by law.
  • Coordinates meetings and processes for eligible students (e.g. testing/screening, IEPs, parent conferences, pre-referral staffing, etc.) for the purpose of presenting evaluation results, developing treatment plans, and/or providing training to parents/students/staff.
  • Instructs eligible students in the use of appropriate communication technologies (e.g. hearing aids, FM systems, augmentative communication devices, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing the adverse educational impact of communication disorders in accordance with established guidelines and legal requirements.
  • Interprets medical reports within the scope of Speech/Language Pathologist's experience and goals for the purpose of providing information and/or ensuring that treatment/intervention plans are appropriate.
  • Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. activity logs, correspondence, memos, treatment plans, Medicaid billings, reports, required documentation, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  • Ensure the opportunity for all students to learn in a supportive environment.
  • Work professionally with administration, staff, parents, and community.
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals.
