Job description

SAIC is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to join our team in support of the Air Operations Center Weapons System (AOC WS) Falconer Program. The position is located at the USAF customer site in Hampton, VA, and reports to the Engineering and Sustainment IPT Lead. This position will support activities at Langley Air Force Base. The selected individual will be part of a team that is responsible for the installation, configuration, sustainment, and troubleshooting of Core, Networking, and Command and Control (C2) systems. This is an onsite position with no travel required.

This position requires a demonstrated/thorough understanding and application of technical writing, and configuration management principals and processes. The successful candidate must be effective at face-to-face interaction with customers (military, government civil service, and contractors) to respond to requests for information and support for technical meetings, technical interchanges, and enterprise working groups. The candidate must be able to work independently and represent the program and SAIC at meetings and working groups with government and associate contractors.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, write, and edit technical installation documents.
    Liaise with systems engineers, cyber security experts, training/program managers, and integration SMEs to define the content for Installation Manuals, Implementation Plans, and other technical documentation.
  • Manage the publication process for technical products, to include stakeholder review and input adjudication.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Concepts of Operation (CONOPs) and other policies, to include procedural steps, assignment of responsibility, expected durations, and task detail.
  • Make editorial recommendations related to style, format, clarity, organization, analytic integrity, tone, and effective argumentation from project initiation to publication/distribution.
  • Prepare and provide input to the visual communication of complex concepts and the layouts of documents and other materials.
  • Ensure document adherence to classification marking rules/regulations.
  • Maintain documents and writing/editing resources on collaborative content management systems.
  • Manage document configuration and versions.
  • Establish template and writing standards for new product initiatives.
  • Proficient in all styles of editing: Copy-editing, substantive/structural editing, developmental/project editing, stylistic editing, and proofreading.
  • Support PC Leadership by drafting and compiling daily, weekly, and project specific activity reports, coordinate meetings and schedules, and perform other ad hoc duties.

Required Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

  • Bachelor's and 6+ years technical writing experience on an interdisciplinary engineering team. Experience considered in leiu of degree.
  • Must have an active Secret clearance.
  • Ability to work well with other organizations and personnel with disparate backgrounds.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Word).

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of the administration, integration, and configuration of AOC Weapons Systems, to include internal and external subsystems.
