Job Description:

Shield AI is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to support the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and improvement of enterprise infrastructure systems across on-premises datacenters and cloud environments.

This role focuses on both execution and delivery-ensuring core systems (compute, identity, storage, and virtualization) are stable, secure, and scalable, while contributing to infrastructure buildouts, system improvements, and automation initiatives.

This position may be based in San Diego or San Mateo, CA; Dallas, TX; or other Shield AI locations.

What you'll do:

Systems Engineering:

  • Design, deploy, and improve infrastructure for site buildouts, expansions, and core enterprise services (AD, Azure AD, M365).
  • Implement and operate virtualization, compute, storage, backup, and disaster recovery systems.
  • Contribute to capacity planning, performance optimization, and security improvements.
  • Automate and streamline operations using scripting and configuration management tools.
  • Document systems and contribute to technical projects and implementations.

Operations and Support:

  • Operate and support infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
  • Monitor system health and proactively resolve issues impacting performance and availability.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across systems, storage, and networking.
  • Provide escalation support and participate in on-call and escalations support.

Maintenance:

  • Perform patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management of infrastructure systems.
  • Execute maintenance and support backup validation and disaster recovery readiness.
  • Perform system tuning, optimization, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of configurations and operational procedures.
Required qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4-6 years of experience supporting infrastructure and systems in a production environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server, Active Directory (on-prem + Azure AD), and virtualization platforms (VMware, Nutanix, Hyper-V, or similar).
  • Experience supporting Linux systems (RHEL, Ubuntu, or similar).
  • Working knowledge of enterprise storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Experience supporting or operating workloads in AWS and/or Azure environments.
  • Experience with scripting and automation (PowerShell, Python, or Bash); familiarity with Infrastructure as Code or configuration management tools is a plus.
  • Experience with system monitoring, patching, and lifecycle management, with the ability to troubleshoot across systems, infrastructure, and basic networking.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a process-oriented, change-controlled environment.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience supporting site buildouts or infrastructure expansions.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).
  • Experience with monitoring/observability platforms.
  • Experience in high-availability or mission-critical environments.
  • Relevant certifications (Microsoft, VMware, AWS/Azure).
$100,000 - $160,000 a year
