Job Summary
Serve as the Coordinator for the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) degree program, guiding students' academic paths and ensuring the successful
administration of the general studies curriculum.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily workflow, curriculum updates, and scheduling for the general studies program
  • Promote, plan, implement, and assess activities to enhance the general studies program
  • Assist with curriculum review and assessment of concentrations
  • Teach courses in one of the general studies concentrations
  • Advise students and hold office hours
  • Provide leadership to Advisors assigned to General Studies
  • Evaluate transcripts of transfer students and GSU Stop-outs to determine which credits can be accepted toward fulfillment of degree requirements.
  • In conjunction with advisors, ensure that each student declaring a major in General Studies has a detailed plan of study.
  • Work with appropriate individuals in the Registrar's Office to support course equivalencies built into Degree Works for frequently occurring transfer institutions
  • Respond to student inquiries regarding program procedures and curriculum
  • Maintain academic records for advisees
  • Participate in recruiting activities
  • Refer students to institutional resources as needed
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees
  • Other duties as assigned by academic leadership

Qualifications
Minimum:
  • Ph.D. or Ed.D.
Preferred:
  • Doctorate degree from an accredited institution in a discipline that supports a concentration in the general studies degree program.
  • Relevant job experience that will support appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor.
  • Demonstrate a student-centered mindset that encourages persistence, motivation, and academic confidence.
  • Demonstrate an ability to adjust student support strategies based on student needs.
