Job Description
Job Summary:
Teledyne Brown Engineering is in need of a Senior Designer to support design and development of Space Flight Hardware for Space Launch System and other space hardware including payloads.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Designs major segments of complex subsystems.
  • Creates 3-D models of parts and assemblies to develop a subsystem layout. Prepares production drawings based on these models.
  • Applies knowledge of materials, finishes, welding, and other manufacturing processes to drawings.
  • Participates in design reviews.
  • Works closely with engineers and manufacturing personnel to insure that all aspects of the design are understood.
  • Serves as liaison with operations during fabrication of parts to insure that all design issues are resolved and drawings are updated.
  • Performs tolerance analysis on mating parts to insure proper fit. Applies knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to designs.
  • Technically directs work and checks drawings of lower level drafters. Provides expertise in CAD software for specific problem solving on a project
  • Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals/deadlines.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may provide technical leadership to lower-level Designers including carrying out lead responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulations and laws and the organization's policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to training employees, planning, assigning, directing work and resolving technically related work problems.

  • Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing Requirement experience required.

  • Experience in design and development of Space Flight Hardware preferred.

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university is a plus.
  • Associates Degree in a related field and a minimum of 10 plus years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Language Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of:
  • PTC Creo/Pro E Computer Aided Design Software Experience necessary
  • Windchill administrative experience is a plus.

Other Qualifications
  • US Citizenship. with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.
  • Ability to travel domestically approximately __+/-10_% is a plus.
