Job description

As an Associate Director in the Deloitte Technology-US (DT-US) Office of the CIO (OCIO) PMO team, you will leverage leading program and project management practices and methodologies to enable world class delivery of our major internal technology programs, while also serving as a Business Portfolio Lead supporting one of Deloitte's core business groups-Consulting, GPS, Advisory & Assurance, Tax, or Audit-or a designated Enterprise Solutions function.

The DT-US PMO team is part of the Office of CIO (OCIO) and reports to the US OCIO Leader. The OCIO leads the development and implementation for technology strategy at Deloitte and drives the strategic initiatives to build market leading technology capabilities. DT-US powers IT for Deloitte's 175K+ professionals while supporting business priorities and transformational initiatives in areas such as AI, Cloud, and Cyber.

Work you'll do

As a PMO and Business Portfolio Lead in Deloitte Technology-US, you will leverage leading practices to drive successful technology implementations. You will be aligned to a specific Deloitte Business (Consulting, GPS, Advisory & Assurance, Tax, or Audit) or Enterprise Solutions function-and will provide oversight across that business's portfolio of projects and programs to drive successful value delivery. You will maintain a solid and current understanding of the business portfolio, program status, and investment priorities.

In this role, you will work closely with DT-US Product Engineering (PxE) leaders who serve as the primary interlocutors with business stakeholders-providing them with the portfolio intelligence, financial reporting, and program status they need to engage business stakeholders effectively. You will build and maintain relationships with DT-US and with business-side teams and stakeholders to ensure DT-US leadership is fully informed and well-prepared for interactions with business executives.

You will also lead the delivery of and provide oversight for complex programs/projects within your portfolio and will act in an advisory and consultative role to teams and stakeholders on project-related activities.

You will be responsible for portfolio financial management of the assigned business portfolio, including participation in budget planning, forecasting, variance tracking, and portfolio-level financial reporting. You will collaborate with key stakeholders in the development of portfolio roadmaps, identification and prioritization of programs and projects, surfacing dependencies, resolving issues, and coordinating between key teams. You will develop portfolio-level metrics and provide accurate, timely, and audience-specific communications to DT-US leaders and PxE partners.

You will manage and grow junior staff supporting specific programs within the PMO, providing day-to-day direction, coaching, and performance feedback, participating in annual performance reviews and resource planning, and serving as escalation point for project and program managers and account managers on your team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide oversight/lead cross-functional teams in the delivery of complex strategic programs/projects that support Deloitte's strategy and drives to deliver technology and program objectives on-time and within/under budget
  • Builds and maintains relationships with DT-US leaders, PxE leaders, product owners, and technical and non-technical teams; coordinates with business-aligned stakeholders to develop and maintain a current understanding of the assigned business portfolio, and provides PxE leaders with the portfolio intelligence and program status they need to engage effectively with business stakeholders
  • Contributes to strategic planning efforts for the assigned Deloitte Business or Enterprise Solutions function and coordinates with stakeholders to develop portfolio roadmaps and budgets
  • Manages portfolio financial reporting for the assigned business portfolio, including budget tracking, forecasting, variance analysis, and spend-to-plan reporting; supports annual financial planning and ensures financial transparency to DT-US leaders and PxE leaders
  • Identifies and prioritizes projects, collaborating with DT-US and business stakeholders to define project objectives and scope
  • Oversees the activities of teams supporting the assigned business portfolio to ensure delivery of timely solutions aligned with the function's strategy; coordinates within DT-US service areas to maintain visibility into cross-functional programs
  • Maintains oversight and accountability for program performance including creation/review of key delivery metrics; develops portfolio status reports and dashboards to keep DT-US leaders and PxE partners informed on program health, risks, and priorities
  • Handles escalations on risk/issue management across teams and service areas for projects within assigned programs - responsible for providing management direction in these areas and ensuring clear communication, consideration of all factors, generation of solution alternatives, and defined actionable plans that are implemented
  • Maintains credibility and accountability for all project and program deliverables within the assigned business portfolio; supports DT-US and PxE leaders in preparing for governance conversations and business stakeholder engagements
  • Participates in annual financial planning process and manages overall portfolio budget and program/project financial reporting
  • Manages and develops project managers and other PMO team members aligned to the assigned portfolio; provides day-to-day direction, coaching, and performance feedback and serves as escalation point for the team on complex program issues
  • Keeps informed on industry trends/leading practices around program and project management and business relationship management, and promotes these leading practices throughout the DT-US organization; contributes to the journey for continuous process improvement
  • Seeks and capitalizes on opportunities to improve productivity, time-to-market, solutions quality, and cost effectiveness

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of relevant experience managing large, complex, cross-functional IT initiatives utilizing a structured project management methodology and formal tools/approaches
  • Demonstrable experience leading a large-scale program including budgeting, staffing, communications (internal and external), and prioritizing competing demands
  • Ability to drive a program from end-to-end - from leading and driving the strategy / business case development for governance approval to organizing an implementation plan to relentlessly managing that plan to deliver the final program objectives
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and strong executive presence. Must be able to analyze, understand, and communicate complex ideas across a varied audience, including senior DT-US leaders and PxE partners
  • Strategic and critical thinker with the ability to make connections across workstreams and Deloitte's matrixed organizations
  • Empowered self-starter comfortable to take the lead and managing multiple initiatives with an ability to effectively collaborate across teams
  • Excellent planning and organization skills
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a matrixed professional services organization
  • Minimum of 2 years of people management experience
  • Experience managing technology portfolio budgets including forecasting, variance tracking, and financial reporting
  • Ability to travel 0-10%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
  • 2+ years of consulting experience

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $118,700 to $218,600.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
