Job description
Democracy Prep Public Schools seeks an Associate Director of HS STEM to serve as the content expert responsible for advancing instructional excellence across our network of schools for high school math and science instruction.
As members of the Academic Team within the Charter Management Organization (CMO), Associate Directors lead the vision and implementation of high-quality instruction within their assigned content area and grade band. They work closely with school leaders, Deputy Superintendents, the Director of HS Academics, and the Managing Director of Academics to ensure that curriculum, instruction, and assessment systems are aligned to rigorous standards and drive strong scholar outcomes.
Associate Directors serve as subject matter experts who translate network academic priorities into concrete practices in classrooms including curriculum adoption and implementation. Through regular partnership with schools, they support leaders and teachers in strengthening planning, instruction, and assessment with an emphasis on accelerating academic outcomes for all students through effective instruction.
While this role does not include direct people management, Associate Directors exercise significant leadership through influence, expertise, and partnership with school leaders. They build strong relationships across schools and serve as key drivers of instructional improvement within their content area.
Who You Are:
- A mission-driven educator committed to Democracy Prep's mission of college success and authentic civic engagement for all scholars.
- A subject matter expert in your content area with deep knowledge of standards, curriculum design, assessment, and instructional practice.
- An experienced instructional leader (dean, assistant principal, or principal) with a track record of improving classroom instruction and achieving ambitious student outcomes.
- A collaborative partner who builds strong relationships with principals, assistant principals, instructional coaches, and teachers.
- A strong communicator who can provide clear, actionable feedback that strengthens instructional practice.
- A data-driven educator who can analyze assessment results to identify trends and instructional priorities grounded in standards.
- A systems thinker who understands how curriculum, assessment, and instructional coaching interact to improve scholar outcomes.
- A reflective practitioner committed to equity, continuous improvement, and excellence in teaching and learning.
What You'll Do
Lead Content Expertise Across the Network
- Serve as the network's content expert for your assigned subject area, curriculum, and grade band, inclusive of disciplinary and pedagogical content knowledge.
- Support the development and implementation of a clear instructional vision aligned to rigorous academic standards.
- Partner with the Managing Director of Academics to identify, select, and implement high-quality instructional materials or develop materials when necessary.
- Ensure strong alignment between curriculum, daily instruction, and interim and high-stakes assessments.
Support Instructional Excellence in Schools
- Partner regularly with school leaders to identify and enact instructional priorities within your content area, with broad alignment to cross-content instructional priorities and goals.
- Conduct frequent classroom observations and instructional reviews, both independently and in partnership with school and network leaders, to identify strengths and opportunities for growth.
- Support the implementation of school and network-based action plans to improve instructional practice and academic outcomes.
- Model effective instructional practices and provide real-time feedback to teachers and instructional leaders.
- Analyze trends across classrooms and schools and share insights with school leadership and the Academic Team.
- Support teachers and leaders in strengthening instructional planning, lesson execution, and assessment practices.
Strengthen Assessment and Curriculum Alignment
- Support the implementation or development and revision of high-quality curricular materials, assessments, and instructional resources.
- Ensure that network assessments are aligned to standards and reflect the rigor of state exams.
- Analyze scholar performance data to identify instructional gaps and guide improvement efforts.
- Identify effective practices within schools and help scale those practices across the network.
Contribute to Network Academic Initiatives
- Support the execution of network-wide academic initiatives led by the HS Director of Academics and Managing Director of Academics.
- Participate in school-based partnership days, school reviews, and CMO collaboration structures.
- Lead or support specific components of network initiatives, such as coordinating partnership day agendas or facilitating professional learning.
- Collaborate with the broader Academic Team to share expertise, identify trends, and strengthen instructional systems across the network.
*May be assigned other duties as needed
Compensation
Salary range is $115,000 - $130,000 commensurate with your experience. Democracy Prep employees are provided with a benefits package that includes medical, vision, and dental insurance, 403B matching, parental leave, a smartphone, and a laptop.
