The institution expects that the hired individual will be able to contribute and help identify fiscal strategies to further the Institution’s mission and create efficiencies beyond the current processing environment. The Controller's Office is additionally responsible for the care and custody of Charter Oak's physical campus; this position may assist the Controller in the management of these tasks including coordination with facility management crews. This position may perform other financial, administrative, and facility related duties as assigned.
Supervisory and Other Relationships:  
This position does not have nor supervise any direct reports. 

Position Responsibilities:  
Procurement - Duties include facilitation and oversight of the requisition and purchase of materials, supplies, equipment, and contractual services in accordance with CSCU and Charter Oak procurement policies. Responsibilities may include the development and coordination of RFP’s, researching market value considerations, obtaining competitive quotations, and the ultimate facilitation and maintenance of contracts as needed. This individual will also be responsible for the administration of capital and controllable assets and the associated inventory procedures. Interfacing with the CSCU & State of Connecticut Procurement and Legal teams may be necessary.
Accounting & Reporting - Perform accounting and reporting functions to ensure compliance with governmental accounting and State of Connecticut standards in addition to those internal procedures identified by management. This will additionally include internal control procedures, reconciliations, and accrual development. The employee may assist in developing policies, queries, and guidelines to ensure the general ledger is maintained appropriately and is updated when business requirements change. This individual will be expected to produce cash and accrual-based journal entries, financial reports, as well as assist in supporting independent audits.
Budgets - Assists with budget preparation and development by compiling and consolidating data. This position will create and maintain periodic internal and external budget reports for distribution.
Transactional Processing & Reconciliation - Performs a variety of professional fiscal and administrative functions which may encompass accounts payable, receipting, refunds, discounting and helping coordinate efforts across the business office including student finances.
The senior associate will continue to build upon their base skillset and will be supported through on the job training delivered through the Controller and the Vice President for Administration & CFO. This position will require high motivation and an innovative mindset. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's level degree in a relevant field.
  • Prior experience with enterprise grade finance ledgers such as CORE CT, Peoplesoft, Jenzabar, Banner, etc.
  • Prior experience performing finance related tasks such as journal entry posting, budget development, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team to manage multiple tasks with on time delivery.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and sound professional judgment and initiative.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically the ability to manage communications and schedules through Microsoft Outlook, shape and interpret financial data within Microsoft Excel, and effectively present utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the application of Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards
  • Experience with external and internal audits conducted under State, Federal, or other acceptable frameworks.
Work Environment:The incumbent typically performs work in the offices of the College’s headquarters located at 185 Main Street, New Britain, Connecticut. The work does not, normally, involve any significant physical effort. The incumbent may travel to public sites to make presentations as well as travel to national or regional meetings and conferences. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. Salary Range:The current salary range for this position is $71,159 - $96,567 and while experience and qualifications are considered, candidates will start at the minimum of the salary range. This position also comes with excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits. The salary will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications such as education and job-related experience, and internal equity.
