Job description

Cloud Engineer

The Cloud Engineer will have an active role in helping design, plan and implement secure cloud migrations as well as adopt new cloud technologies to support business and project needs.

This role will provide technical support on major tasks or technology assignments, support for multi-cloud environments, infrastructure migration methodologies and techniques including application migrations to cloud platforms and implement scalable and reliable cloud based, multi-tenant, multi-Cloud Service Provider solutions examples are Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure (this list is not all-inclusive). These platforms will support both traditional and containerized instances

Duties/Responsibilities include (This list is not all inclusive):

  • Building cloud instances based off of system and mission requirements
  • Develop laC methodology to define and implement on-prem and cloud infrastructure components such as physical hardware, virtual machines, storage, core roles, and network configurations.
  • Utilize laC tools like Terraform, Ansible, and AWX to provision and manage infrastructure across multiple platforms (on-prem or cloud).
  • Implement standardized configurations, best practices, and automation for infrastructure deployments, ensuring scalability, security, and consistency
  • Integrate lac code with CI/CD pipelines to automate infrastructure provisioning, updates, and maintenance during development and deployment cycles.
  • Ensure seamless and consistent infrastructure management across various environments (dev, test, production).
  • Collaborate with the development team to facilitate smooth infrastructure provisioning as part of the development lifecycle.
  • Research, design, install, configure, and deploy platform products in high availability infrastructure to support all products and applications.
  • Responsible for delivering cloud solutions, both laaS and PaaS, that enables the business to run sensitive workloads within a cloud environment securely.
  • Create and install cloud computing solutions in accordance with user requirements
  • Automate cloud system operations to enhance efficiency and speed
  • Developing, establishing and implementing modular cloud-based applications
  • Resolving technical issues and documenting them
  • Creating strategies for enhancing the performance of existing cloud technology
  • Maintaining applications and infrastructure for cloud-based platforms
  • Training IT team members to use different cloud computing technologies
  • Creating instructions for cloud computing operations and their documentation
  • Maintaining, updating, and refining documentation
  • Designing, developing and deploying modular cloud-based systems
  • Research, design, install, configure, and deploy platform products in high availability infrastructure to support all products and applications.

Certification Requirements:

  • DoDD 8570.01-M IAT
  • DoDM 8140.03 CYBERSPACE WORKFORCE QUALIFICATION

  • Microsoft Certified Expert in the Azure product line OR
  • AWS Solutions Architect Associate or Above OR
  • Google Associate Cloud Engineer or Above OR
  • Microsoft Certified Azure DevOps Engineer Expert OR

Experience Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience on the leading cloud platforms (such as Azure, Amazon, Google) developing/implementing service models (ex. laaS, PaaS, or SaaS)
  • Designing and implementing lac solutions using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
  • Familiarity with Container Platforms such as Docker, OpenShift and other emerging technologies
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure and Platform Automation Technologies and Tools such as Puppet, Ansible, AWS, Azure, GCP based technologies.
  • Experience in building and operating financial control and analysis systems (cloud cost analysis, showback, and chargeback)
  • Experience understanding how cloud resources are tagged
  • Experience providing suggestions about cost optimizations
  • Mentors and coaches colleagues and seeks opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Comfortable working in cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to create and maintain a project plan in a multi-cloud environment
  • Good understanding of software development and integration at the SaaS and laaS levels
  • Proficient understanding of distributed computing principles
  • Experience with integration of data from multiple data sources
  • Guide technical staff in resolving technical architecture and design issues.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership in platform services and cloud computing and become a trusted advisor to decision-makers.
  • Demonstrated well-balanced approach to addressing complex infrastructure concepts
  • Maintain awareness of and Evaluate emerging cloud capabilities, technologies, and tools, develop technical domain roadmaps pertinent to public cloud technologies and capabilities

  • US Citizenship
  • Must have at least a current active SECRET clearance

Additional desired (Not Required) certifications, skills, experience, and/or knowledge:

  • Networking experience
  • Experience with container technologies (ex. Docker)
  • Experience with Kubernetes or a Kubernetes platform
  • VMware virtualization experience
  • Understanding of DISA STIGs or CIS frameworks
