Job description

Position Summary
 
The Vice President of Enterprise Operations Services and Support, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, provides strategic oversight and leadership for all Enterprise Operational Centers of Excellence (COEs) – including engineering, automation, mobile equipment, explosives, mine planning, and central maintenance. This role works closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Division Presidents, and Division Leadership Teams to advance Operational COE service offerings and meet evolving needs of the business, propagate best practices, and create maximum value for the Enterprise. This role will partner with division leadership teams to prioritize and drive initiatives which increase return on invested capital, drive cost efficiency, foster operational innovation, and reinforce a culture of continuous improvement, all while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and sustaining world class safety performance. Success in this role requires strong partnership and influence across the broader organization. 
 
Core Responsibilities:
Executive Leadership
  • Develop operations services and support capabilities, ensuring alignment with SOAR 2030 and Division objectives.
  • Partner with Division leadership and operating teams to evolve and refine enterprise operations services to meet changing business needs.
  • Ensure COEs function as valued support groups that enhance local execution while maintaining enterprise alignment.
  •  Provide guidance, standards, and performance expectations across operations COE functions.
  • Champion a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Ensure propagation of best practices while allowing for local execution and flexibility.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and operational partner to Division leadership teams and corporate executives.
  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships and support acquisition due-diligence and integration efforts.
Continuous Improvement
  • Enhance organizational capability and reinforce a culture of continuous improvement across all operating divisions, helping to enable sustainable profit growth.
  • Implement and maintain a balanced scorecard of key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting capabilities which drive intended behaviors and monitor critical aspects of operational performance across the Enterprise.
  • Provide executive sponsorship for the Plant Manager Institute, annual Diamond Awards evaluation and recognition process, and other enterprise training initiatives.
  • Use feedback and performance outcomes to continuously refine operational training effectiveness.
  • Promote a learning culture that drives operational maturity, operational efficiency, and long-term competitiveness.
Engineering & Capital Effectiveness
  • Provide executive leadership for enterprise engineering standards, guidelines, specifications and capital projects governance.
  • Refine engineering standards to reduce capital cost while maintaining safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Improve transparency and discipline regarding capital investment and returns across regions and divisions.
  • Provide oversight of mobile equipment standards which improve reliability, safety, and total cost of ownership.
Digital Enablement and Business Intelligence
  •  Implement automation and operational data initiatives which enable SOAR 2030 and maximize value creation for the Enterprise.
  • Ensure automation initiatives deliver tangible and measurable operational, safety, and financial benefits.
  • Navigate enterprise dependencies (IS, vendors, external partners) to overcome implementation constraints and accelerate outcomes which create value for the Enterprise.
Central Maintenance / Salisbury Shop
  • Provide strategic oversight to the Salisbury Shop as a critical enterprise maintenance capability.
  • Ensure responsiveness to emergency repairs and disciplined execution of planned maintenance.
  • Sponsor maintenance standards that reduce premature failures and lifecycle cost.
  • Evaluate business needs for additional central maintenance capabilities and/or facilities.
 Explosives Governance & Safety
  • Maintain executive accountability for explosives engineering, vibration monitoring, compliance, and risk management.
  • Ensure enterprise policies (e.g., Blasting Rules and Regulations) are current, enforced, and supported by training and audits.
  • Strengthen vendor oversight and operator compliance following evolving industry and internal risk profiles.
  • Partner closely with Safety and Legal leadership to reinforce disciplined execution.

  • Lead largely through influence and collaboration across independent operating teams.
  • Lead with strategic clarity, operational rigor, and calm execution through change.
  • Demonstrate visible commitment to safety, ethics, and compliance as core business imperatives.
  • Balance long-term strategic vision (SOAR) with hands-on engagement where needed.
  • Communicate clearly across executive, operational, and technical audiences.
  • Challenge legacy practices constructively while maintaining strong partnerships.
  • Model continuous improvement, ruthless prioritization, and enterprise-first decision-making.
  • Perform all activities in accordance with Martin Marietta’s Mission, Vision, and Values, and in compliance with the company’s policies, procedures, and Code of Ethical Business Conduct.

Minimum Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations management, mining, or related field
  • A minimum of 20 years of progressive leadership experience in mining, aggregates, or industrial manufacturing, with a strong background in operations management and support functions.
  • Proven record of successfully leading large and geographically dispersed professional teams.
  • Formal training and practical application of continuous improvement methodologies such as six sigma and lean manufacturing.
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with a proven ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of an organization.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to drive strategic initiatives and adapt to changing business priorities and conditions.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
  • Preferred - An MBA and/or advanced technical degree.
  • Preferred - Experience with automation, digital transformation, or innovation projects within mining or industrial manufacturing.
