Job description

Job Summary
The Network Infrastructure Technician I provides entry-level support for Dallas Theological Seminary's physical network infrastructure. This position assists in the installation, maintenance, documentation, and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems, Telecommunications rooms (TR), Equipment Rooms (ER), equipment racks, wireless infrastructure, and related technology systems.
Working under the guidance of senior infrastructure staff, the technician learns and applies industry best practices while supporting the Seminary's mission through dependable technology services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Telecommunications Room Support
  • Assist in maintaining Telecommunication and Equipment Rooms.
  • Perform basic cable management and housekeeping activities.
  • Verify equipment labeling and documentation standards.
  • Assist with equipment inventory management.
Structured Cabling Support
  • Install and label copper network cabling.
  • Assist with fiber optic cable installation projects.
  • Terminate and test copper cabling under supervision.
  • Install faceplates, patch panels, and cable management components.
  • Maintain infrastructure labeling standards.
Network Equipment Installation
  • Assist with installation of switches, wireless access points, UPS systems, and related hardware.
  • Rack and cable network equipment.
  • Perform basic network connectivity testing.
  • Assist with office moves, adds, and changes.
IT Service Management
  • Respond to assigned service requests and incidents.
  • Document completed work within the IT Service Management platform.
  • Follow established change management procedures.
  • Escalate complex issues appropriately.
Documentation
  • Update cable records and infrastructure documentation.
  • Maintain asset inventory records.
  • Document completed installations and modifications.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Telecommunications, Network Administration, or related discipline; or equivalent experience.
Experience
  • 0-2 years of IT infrastructure, telecommunications, or cabling experience.
  • Experience gained through internships, technical training programs, or related employment may be considered.
Technical Knowledge
Basic understanding of:
  • Structured cabling systems
  • Copper and fiber optic networks
  • Network equipment installation

  • Basic networking concepts
Preferred Qualifications
