We are currently seeking a talented and motivated Database Administrator IV for a Full-Time position.
Job Summary:
The Database Administrator IV provides advanced database administration and operational support for enterprise database systems supporting the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). This role is responsible for ensuring availability, performance, security, and integrity of databases across mission-critical applications.
This position is ideal for a hands-on DBA who can balance operations, troubleshooting, and optimization in a structured federal environment.
Technology Environment (Representative)
  • Database Platforms: Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or equivalent enterprise RDBMS
  • Hosting: On-prem and hybrid environments
  • Data Tools: SQL, stored procedures, performance tuning tools
  • Backup & Recovery: Enterprise backup solutions
  • Security: Role-based access control, encryption, auditing

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and maintain enterprise database systems (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc.)
  • Monitor database performance, availability, and health
  • Perform database tuning, indexing, and query optimization
  • Manage backups, restores, and disaster recovery processes
  • Implement and maintain database security controls
  • Support application teams with database-related issues
  • Execute database patches, upgrades, and migrations
  • Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks and system issues
  • Maintain database documentation, configurations, and SOPs
  • Support audits, compliance reviews, and reporting requirements
  • Coordinate with system, network, and application teams

Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of database administration experience
  • Strong experience with at least one enterprise RDBMS (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL)
  • Experience with performance tuning and query optimization
  • Experience with backup and recovery strategies
  • Understanding of database security and access controls
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in federal or regulated environments
  • Exposure to multiple database platforms
  • Familiarity with scripting (T-SQL, PL/SQL, or similar)
  • Experience supporting high-availability environments
