What is an assisted living placement agency?

An Assisted Living Placement Agency is a service that helps seniors and their families find appropriate assisted living facilities or senior care options. These agencies assess individual needs, preferences, and budgets to recommend suitable communities or care homes. They often provide guidance throughout the process, including touring facilities, understanding costs, and navigating paperwork. Their goal is to ensure that seniors find a safe, comfortable, and supportive living environment that matches their requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an assisted living placement agency role?

Success in an Assisted Living Placement Agency requires strong knowledge of senior care options, case management, and familiarity with relevant healthcare regulations, often supported by experience in social work or gerontology. Proficiency with client management software, referral databases, and understanding of HIPAA compliance is typically necessary. Outstanding interpersonal skills, empathy, and problem-solving abilities help professionals build trust with families and effectively match clients to appropriate facilities. These skills ensure ethical, personalized placements and foster positive outcomes for seniors and their families.

What are some common challenges faced when working in an assisted living placement agency, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in an Assisted Living Placement Agency often encounter challenges such as navigating complex family dynamics, keeping up-to-date with changing regulations, and ensuring each client's unique needs are met. Building strong communication skills and staying informed about local assisted living options are key to overcoming these hurdles. Additionally, collaborating closely with healthcare professionals and maintaining a compassionate, client-centered approach can help ensure successful placements and client satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

  • Respond quickly to inbound family inquiries and referrals.

  • Conduct needs assessments and recommend suitable senior living options, coordinating tours and guiding families through the decision and move-in process.

  • Track leads, activity, and placements in the CRM, and develop local referral sources.

Job description

Company: Innovative Senior Concepts
Location: Greater Philadelphia — Hybrid (remote + local field visits)
Employment Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
Compensation: Commission-based
About Us
Innovative Senior Concepts  helps families find the right senior living option for their aging loved ones — We guide people through one of life's hardest decisions with compassion, local expertise, and a personal touch. Our advisors are the trusted bridge between families in need and the assisted living, memory care, and independent living communities in their area.
The Role
As a Senior Living Placement Agent, you'll work directly with families to understand their loved one's care needs, budget, and preferences, then match them with vetted senior living communities. You'll manage each family from first conversation through move-in, earning a referral commission for every successful placement.
This is a hybrid role: you'll work from home for calls and follow-ups, and get out into the field to tour communities and meet families in person when it counts.
What You'll Do
  • Respond quickly to inbound family inquiries and referrals
  • Conduct needs assessments over the phone, by video, and in person
  • Recommend and coordinate tours of assisted living, memory care, independent living, and residential care communities
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local senior living community partners
  • Guide families through the decision and move-in process with patience and empathy
  • Follow up consistently to ensure a smooth placement and a positive family experience
  • Track leads, activity, and placements in the CRM
  • Develop local referral sources (hospitals, discharge planners, social workers, elder law attorneys, home health agencies)

What We're Looking For
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills — you genuinely enjoy helping people
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently toward commission-based goals
  • Excellent phone, written, and in-person communication
  • Organized, responsive, and reliable with follow-through
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel locally for tours and meetings
  • Comfortable with a CRM and standard digital tools
Preferred (not required):

  • Experience in senior living, home care, hospice, healthcare sales, or social work
  • Existing network of local healthcare or senior-care referral sources
  • Knowledge of levels of care and the senior living landscape
This is a commission-based role with strong earning potential for motivated agents.
  • Commission paid per successful placement — 20% of the net referral fee collected on each successful placement
  • Commissions are paid once the community pays out on the placement — 30 days after the resident has completed the 30-day guarantee period
  • Typical placement commissions in this market range from Independent Living — ~$3,000 rent → ~$600 commission
    Personal Care / Assisted Living — ~$5,000 rent → ~$1,000 commission
Memory Care — ~$7,000 rent → ~$1,400 commission per placement
  • Uncapped earning potential — the more families you help, the more you earn

Flexible work from home options available.
