What are Assistant Yacht Cooks?

Assistant Yacht Cooks are culinary professionals who support the main chef or head cook aboard private or charter yachts. Their responsibilities include preparing ingredients, assisting with meal preparation, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and ensuring hygiene standards are met. They may also help with menu planning, inventory, and occasionally serve meals to guests. This role is essential for smooth galley operations, especially during busy charter seasons or long voyages.

To thrive as an Assistant Yacht Cook, you need culinary training, knowledge of food safety, and experience in meal preparation, often supported by a food hygiene certificate. Familiarity with galley equipment, inventory management systems, and the ability to work within confined maritime kitchens are crucial. Flexibility, teamwork, and strong organizational skills help you adapt to changing meal schedules and support the head chef and crew. These skills ensure high-quality, safe meals are delivered efficiently, enhancing the onboard experience for guests and crew.
