Cooperidge Consulting Firm is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer specializing in Rotating Equipment & Reliability for a global industry leader in Eastern North Carolina.

This is a senior-level technical leadership role supporting multiple chemical and milling plants. You will serve as the site’s primary subject matter expert for rotating equipment, owning the vibration analysis and lubrication programs from the ground up. Beyond troubleshooting, you will drive long-term reliability by conducting root-cause failure analyses, mentoring technical staff, and managing maintenance budgets. This is an ideal opportunity for a veteran engineer who thrives in high-stakes PSM (Process Safety Management) environments and wants to oversee the health of critical industrial assets.
Job Responsibilities

  • Vibration Program Leadership: Own the site-wide vibration program; analyze complex data, provide balance corrections for rotating machinery, and train incoming technicians.
  • Reliability Strategy: Oversee the equipment lubrication program, setting high-performance vendor goals and driving continuous improvement in asset life.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Identify root causes of equipment failure and provide expert technical guidance to operations and maintenance teams for both rotating and fixed assets.
  • Maintenance Oversight: Advise on the proper execution of preventive maintenance (PM) and repair activities; develop and maintain detailed job plans and bills of materials.
  • Project & Budget Management: Assist in the execution of small-scale capital projects and administer maintenance processes and budgets to ensure operational alignment.
  • Quality & Safety Auditing: Conduct rigorous work-quality and safety audits of hourly employees to ensure compliance with corporate standards and PSM regulations.
  • Documentation Mastery: Update and maintain critical maintenance documentation, including repair reports and hardware upgrade recommendations for high-value machinery.
  • Vendor Collaboration: Partner with preferred equipment manufacturers and technical consultants to integrate specialized knowledge into plant operations.

Requirements

Education & Licensing
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering is REQUIRED.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification is highly preferred.
  • U.S. Citizenship/Permanent Residency is REQUIRED (No current or future sponsorship).
Experience

  • Industry Background: Must come from a PSM-regulated industry (Chemical, Refinery, Mineral, or Pulp & Paper).
  • Mandatory Skillset: Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience specifically in vibration analysis and industrial lubrication programs.
Skills
  • Proven ability to analyze failed equipment and implement corrective actions.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage technical resources and budgets.
  • Proficiency in project management and maintenance planning software.
