What are Assistant Trainees?

Assistant Trainees are entry-level professionals who support senior staff members while receiving on-the-job training in a specific field or organization. Their main role is to learn the necessary skills and responsibilities required for advancement by assisting with day-to-day tasks, observing experienced workers, and sometimes participating in formal training programs. This position helps individuals gain practical experience and knowledge, making it a common starting point for many career paths. Nurse Assistant Trainee Program

Calling all compassionate caregivers! Start your healthcare career with us.

Are you ready to take the first step toward a rewarding healthcare career? St. Catherine Hospital is actively seeking motivated, caring individuals for our Nurse Assistant Trainee Program — a 5-week paid training program that includes both classroom instruction and hands-on clinical experience, taught on-site by our Clinical Educators in East Chicago, IN.

Why Join the Program?
  • Paid training (classroom + clinical hours)
  • All coursework fees covered by St. Catherine Hospital
  • Guaranteed job opportunities upon successful completion
  • A direct pathway into a long-term healthcare career
Position Summary

If you're looking for a team-focused, energizing role where you can grow your skills and make a meaningful impact, this program is for you.

As a Nurse Assistant Trainee, you will be enrolled in our on-site Patient Care Technician (PCT) Training Program, designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors needed to safely and effectively care for patients. Upon completion, you will function as a valued member of the healthcare team under the supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse.

Program Commitment

St. Catherine Hospital will cover the full cost of the Nurse Assistant Training (NAT) Course — a $585 value — with the expectation that graduates work one year after course completion. If employment ends before the one-year commitment, the course cost becomes the responsibility of the participant.

Employment After Graduation

Full-time and part-time roles are available after the 5-week program. Because this is a patient-care role, no specific shift can be guaranteed. Graduates must be able to work:

  • Days, evenings, and nights
  • Every other weekend
  • Alternate holidays

All course graduates are expected to work a minimum of 0.6 FTE (48 hours per pay period).

Course Information
  • Start Date: Monday, 07/20/2026
  • End Date: Friday, 08/21/2026
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday
  • Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (40 hours/week)
Education & Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Successful completion of the pre-entrance exam
  • CPR certification recommended.
  • Completes annual skill validations as well as safety and infection control procedures.

If you are someone looking to establish a foundation as a Healthcare Professional, apply today!

We invite you to join our team of professionals where your unique talents will be well utilized in a work environment that promotes your further growth and development. In return for your valuable service and contributions, Powers Health offers a competitive wage and benefits package along with the necessary tools, resources, and mentoring opportunities to support your career advancement goals.
