The LSU School of Music invites applications for a full-time Assistant to the Director. The successful candidate will serve within the College of Music and Dramatic Arts in a multi-faceted role providing administrative support to the Director of the School of Music; coordinating the School of Music front office, building use, and organizational functions; serve as point of contact for School of Music faculty, students, visitors, and the external community; serve as a liaison between the Director and other campus and community entities.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Office Manager. Interact with/serve faculty, staff, students, campus and community partners, and the public; maintain office equipment and supplies; oversee mail delivery and distribution, create records, sort and file; schedule the directors' appointments and travel and process the resulting business transactions; write and distribute correspondence - 40%
  • Perform organizational duties. Organize student awards, scholarship auditions, student newsletter, the Hire a Musician service, flights/hotels for faculty position finalists, catering and logistics for special events or receptions. Have functional competence with the Workday Student information system and a basic skill with Microsoft Excel - 25%
  • Coordinate use of building. Reserve rooms for academic courses, ensemble rehearsal and performance, lessons and practice, auditions; monitor building condition and submit work requests to facility services; troubleshoot building copiers and Boardroom smart board- 25%
  • Coordinate, monitor, and evaluate student workers - 5%
  • Other duties as assigned - 5%

  • Degree substitute: Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply- a degree is not required as long as the candidate meets the required years of experience specified

The LSU School of Music offers a comprehensive music program with nearly 500 majors. It has over 50 faculty, 10 professional staff, and 75 graduate assistants. Degrees offered include the Ph.D. (with concentrations in composition, experimental music and digital media, music education, musicology, and music theory), DMA (concentrations in music performance and choral, orchestral, and wind conducting,), MM, BM, BME, and BA (Liberal Arts). LSU has a vibrant and collaborative media arts community. The Center for Computation & Technology (CCT) supports LSU's Cultural Computing Focus area, and includes Experimental Music & Digital Media, Digital Media Arts & Engineering, and Digital Arts, offering opportunities to compose for video games, digital animations, and film.
